We did an Easter Sunday dinner with our daughter and her friends, the sort of stuff they eat here - baked ham, Mac and cheese, deviled eggs, green beans, mashed potatoes. It’s all ok, but not my favorite.

We’re putting that right today. Long weekend, day off, and we will do more of an English style roast dinner. We have a rib roast (shame the lad is at college as we will barely put a dent in it) and I’m getting good at roasting it to medium rare. It will have a herb and butter rub on it, and we will roast it on garlic and a few root vegetables to lift it out of the juices.

Mrs ROTW is really good at Yorkshire pudding. Whenever I try it’s not the same. So Yorkshire’s, plus roast potatoes, carrots, sprouts and gravy. It’s a lovely English style roast dinner, and I miss that sort of stuff, so it makes for a nice treat from time to time.

I just walked the dog a few miles which should offset a small fraction of what I’m going to eat. :joy:

Cocktail hour as we cook together, g&t coming up, then a nice bottle of red with the meal. Cheers!

These were never safe in our house when I was about. Me before the nippers every time… Sod them, they had to make do with that baby food that smelled like shit as it came out the jar.
A spread of butter on one side of these and it was like entering through the gates of heaven… :0)

I used to have them with milk. They changed the recipe at some point. Still taste the same but go soggy too quickly.

They were nice, weren’t they?
That gripe water wasn’t bad either :face_savoring_food:

I’ve done it now. Over the last 3 weeks I’ve been really good on calorie counting and watching what I eat.

Blown it now, as I came across this vegan cinnamon loaf that didn’t rely on bananas, stuff I can’t eat basically. The smell from the kitchen is unbelievable but I’ve got to let it cool a bit.

For the recipe search The Nard Dog on social media. He does a load of great vegan recipes.

Black Pudding for me…

I’d happily eat all of them! Not in the same meal, mind.

Yeah, I would and have eaten them all and enjoyed them. Good black pudding is fantastic, so that would be first choice. Chinese restaurant near me does really good deep fried oysters. Frogs legs I had a long time ago, but tasted good, would order again given the opportunity. Snails can be chewy, but with a good sauce/seasoning are nice.

How predictable I am. Father’s Day tomorrow. Any meal I want and I go for my favorite, surf and turf. Would much rather eat at home so that’s what we will do.

Starter will be garlic prawns, bought some lovely tiger prawns, will go down a treat. Probably with a chilled Pinot Grigio. Main course will be my favorite steak, ribeye. Season with salt a pepper. Room temperature. Cast iron pan, sear on a very high heat. Cook to medium rare. Spoon on butter late in the process. Garlic and rosemary will be in the cast iron pan at this stage to add flavor to the butter as I spoon it over the steak at the finish. Let it rest. Got it down to a tee. Make some nice mushrooms and lightly roast some asparagus spears. Job’s a good ā€˜un. Enjoy a nice bottle of red - currently I’m enjoying Malbec, then watch some World Cup. Maybe a little bourbon as a night cap.

Happy early Father’s Day!

A bit early to prepare lunch. But Fish Pulusu (riverfish steamed in a spicy tamarind based broth). Will taste better by the time it’s ready for lunch in probably 2-3 hours time as it rests and the gravy thickens

Needed a lot more chillies. Was good though otherwise.

Anyway on how to fix this ?
