What’s cooking tonight…nothing..it’s to warm to slave over a cooker…could be sandwiches…
Sea bass and spring onions , brown rice and brocolli.
Sounds good…but too warm here…to cook
It’s 38°C here atm.
Sawft
Its 34° and thats the coolest its been all day…
Wow … that’s unreal for the UK. Aren’t you up by Donny somewhere too ?
Since recently returning to work full time, Mrs ROTW has started to get creative with doing a few more crockpot meals that can cook slowly all day. Tonight it is beef pepperoncini, basically a cheapish cut of beef in the crockpot, with lots of pepperoncini’s, a few chilis and some other spices.
It all falls apart and shreds easily with a couple of forks, so you can make a hoagie roll, and ladle out some of the sauce to dip your sandwich. Sort of like a hot Italian beef sandwich.
We’ll do something like that one day, then a nice salad the next day.
I’m far removed from the stage of life where I need three square meals, so I’m trying to eat one decent meal and one lighter meal.
Yep…it’s been bloomin hot all day…our house and garden have the sun all day till sunset…so the outside walls act as heaters…supposed to be like this till Friday…
Thankfully I have gas, that the government want to faze out
. Power cut last night and no sign of electricity this morning either. FFS I live a few miles from a nuclear power station.
Anyway I make a big slow cooked pot once a week, chicken at the moment. So heated that up and boiled some rice.
I’m going to have to eat what’s in the freezer over the next 3 days.
Btw it’s weird walking into a dark room automatically switching the light switch and still remaining in the dark
.
It’ll be the same today…no bloody warm food today…salads…water …fruit juice…were up to 35° now…I’m going to get our thermometer and check our walls tonite
Not being any level of expert myself when it comes to cooking a good curry, then maybe I am easily convinced, but this lady certainly seems to know her stuff. Worth a watch in my opinion.
I have been pretty much veggie (no red meat) for over 10 years and this makes me feel rather queasy..
I thought all kebabs these days where at best Turkey. Those minced stick (elephant legs) always tasted like poop to me. If you add enough good tasting sauce I suppose anything passes.
It’s a long time since I have eaten kebab. There was a good one just outside Stade Felix Mayol, Toulon when I went to matches. None of this paste stuff real slices of dark looking meat (of course I never tested it but it sure as hell tasted like sheep with or without sauce. The chips were rubbish.
Which one would you smash if you absolutely had to?
Anne Widdicombe, Janet Street-Porter, Mary Berry or prime Nigella Lawson?
Might try this…
Porridge has ‘life-changing’ flavour when you add 1p ingredient before cooking
Jam and honey may be the most common go-to options for adding flavour to morning porridge, but one woman insists she’s discovered the ultimate taste sensation - and it’ll set you back just a penny to try it yourself.
Carla, who posts budget-friendly food advice on TikTok, demonstrated her inventive approach in a video. Brandishing a box of Yorkshire Tea, she declared: “If you love tea and you’ve not tried putting your tea bag in your porridge, you really must try it.”
Opening up a realm of possibilities with numerous flavoured teas on offer, Carla revealed her top pick is Yorkshire Tea’s caramelised biscuit tea bags. “These are my ultimate favourite, but you can use any tea bag,” she explained.
Carla went on to detail the straightforward recipe, which simply involves adding porridge oats to your bowl, the tea bag, sweetener and water “to allow the tea bag to brew.” She added: “You then just microwave this for two to three minutes and the tea will kind of exude itself into your porridge.”
After heating, Carla topped hers with a handful of chopped strawberries and whey powder for additional protein - making sure it’s plain to prevent “overpowering” the tea’s flavour - followed by soya crispies and pistachios.
“Obviously the gross bit is removing the tea bag,” she conceded. Carla added: “I really recommend this though - it’s like a way of getting a double-dose of caffeine in the morning. I’m imagining coffee lovers could do the same thing with coffee in their porridge, but think of all the possibilities here.”
She concluded with suggestions of Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea porridge. “Has anyone tried peppermint tea porridge?” Carla pondered. “Would that work? Is that a different vibe? Green tea porridge perhaps?”
Carla’s video attracted over 200,000 TikTok viewers in just four days. Numerous viewers were eager to share their reactions, including one person who penned in response: “Tea-infused porridge? Brilliant idea! How about trying a matcha porridge next?”
A second shared excitedly: “I love these tea bags so will try this! I recommend the Tesco vanilla chai ones too.” To which Carla replied: “I’ve never tried chai and would be nervous to waste a whole box. I need to find someone who has it and ‘borrow’ it!”
Someone else declared: “Coffee porridge is so underrated, add instant coffee to the oats and it’s 10/10.” A fourth revealed: “I had some Earl Grey porridge in a hotel in Canada and it’s one of my favourite meals ever so this is right up my street.”
While a fifth TikTok user said: “I like really strong tea so I usually just rip up the teabag and put the tea leaves straight in my oats.” However, Carla hit back: “Interesting! I don’t like tea leaf texture though.” And a sixth person hailed: “This may be life changing information.”
