I think the problem with Thiago is we are asking to do something, which he is more than willing to do, but he is just not very good at it. When Gini and Hendo played in front of Fab, you have 2 hound dogs who will run all day from front to the back and they are actually very good and effective at covering those spaces in between them. Now Thiago tries but tackling, winning the ball back, while he has the attitude to do it, he is just not that kind of player. I think to achieve the balance with Fab and Thiago, Hendo is the better player in the trio. Hendo just have that edge in terms of focus and consistency over Gini who is of course still a great player for us. But balance has always been an important element in our team. Unfortunately we will not see Hendo much in this season so Jones might be given a shot but for now, the trio that played last night is still our best midfield we have now.
I do agree that while he has shown to be a very good player but has shown nothing to deserve the world class billing so far. But to be fair, Klopp has never had a chance to work out a balance with Thiago in midfield with the key players due to injuries. Hopefully in summer we will have better luck with everyone back fit.
I hadnāt a clue who he was when he arrived, I never watch Bundesliga and certainly never Spain.
I think heās coming on well he has obviously changed his game a lot; His quick one touch passes are like what Hendo does under pressure, at the moment his are lacking the accuracy but a player of that quality will manage to be good at it pretty soon.
Heās growing on me, he makes the necessary effort and against Wolves he was picking up second balls (created by Fabs, Nat and Kabak) he was tackling and tracking back. Once he gets used to the lack of space and time when in posssession I think he will be seen as a good addition to the squad. If any team decides to give hims space then i think heād have a field day.
I would love to see him parnered with Hendo and Fabs, even Jones and Fabs would be good (whatās happenned to Jones Btw?
Not especially concerned. Heās a top class player who is in the adaptation phase, and learns very quickly, especially when considering that he has had more than three months on the sidelines due to injury.
Every player coming from abroad has had to adapt for a while. Remember Xabi and Masch at the time? They had a rather long bedding-in time before really getting through and displaying their whole potential. Fabinho has had to adapt his game as well initially, at least in the PL.
Iām convinced that Thiago will go from strength to strength with us if he can stay fit. Weāll see the best of him next season and the one after that.
Well may that be but Thiago please shut up and save your talking for the pitch, at least this season. Maybe after we win the CL and are coasting toward the title this time next year you can get your chat on?
Exactly this. I maintain he was bought to allow us to play 4-2-3-1 but due to the unprecedented injuries we simply havenāt been able to field a balanced team capable of playing it.
This season has been compromises all the way with lots of players playing in different roles. Thiago is one and that is combined with playing for a new club / manager at the same time. I have some sympathy to be honest.
What? against The Arse? I thought he was poor slowing it down, turning the wrong way and little understanding with Firmino who looked like he was playing the same position. At least we have Jota to get things moving in the right direction.
Won the ball back loads, kept it well, played loads of forward passes into the feet of Salah, Mane, Firmino and also made a couple of really good switches to Robertson.
