Thiago ALCANTARA: 2020/21

He’s played loads of games better than that, but I bet he’ll get a bit of praise tonight.

True, a goal/ assist changes so much perception for some reason though.

He was really good for the first 60-70 minutes, perhaps at his liveliest in Liverpool colors. But he looked a bit exhausted in the later stage of the game.

Even Kevin Friend couldn’t give him a Yellow. :muscle:

He covered a lot of terrain. As well as that his defending appeared effective (which is new). Very good performance in that respect.
He does appear to be on the wrong side of the pitch when in possession. His passes out left (to Robertson and Mané) left a lot to be desired.
I’m not surprised his game fell off at the end.

I feel he gets a lot of opportunities to shoot during a game but instead passes.

Pull the trigger lad!

Yeah he held back a couple of times and just niggled instead of those comedy tackles he was doing when he returned from injury. I think that was fitness (potentially long Covid affects).

In total agreement with this, he has played better with far better stats and has got lambasted on here

How can you get better stats than scoring a goal?
It’s all relative, no?
I thought his involvement yesterday was above what he’s managed for us before though agree that in possession he wasn’t at his best. Some poor passes and lack of vision at times. Defensively he did all you could expect which surely is a big improvement.
Anyway each to his own, I know he can pass and look dcent on the ball seeing he can be useful defensively improved my perception of him.
Fabs, Hendo and Thiago could be monstrous if Klopp puts them in their correct positions. Why is Thiago to the right of midfiekd?

Solid performance, good goal, still don’t like him at RCM though.

Not saying he didn’t have good performances on that side of central midfield, but I think his ceiling/capabilities are more limited there. I want his right foot facing the game more, that’s when you get the best of him. Plus, he’d be well protected there with the likes of Virgil, Robbo, Fabinho and Mane all around him. One of the best sides of a team in football, actually. Add a bit of Thiago to that and it could be absolutely boss.

Looking forward and hoping that we see him more at LCM next season. Be it in a midfield 3 or 2, whatever.

Jones plays RCM for the majority of the season, Gini comes off, Jones goes to LCM instead of Thiago.

I don’t get why we avoid this. Whenever he finds himself more towards the left (and Newcastle mid-game was the best example), he starts those line breaking passes, having naturally more options on the ball/passing lanes.

2nd half Thiago and Gini swapped for a good while and we saw an improvement. Hopefully Klopp saw it as well but I’m not holding my breath.
Jones LCM is ok by me he’s good there then he can play centrally as well and Thiago Fabs holding deeper could be good, we saw Thiago hovering around Fabs a lot looking for the second ball that Gini seems to have given up on.

It is, I’d also like to see more of Jones or more of our “creators” from there, but especially Thiago. Jones is young, his ball manipulation is fantastic. Thiago is your finished article player and I feel even when he performs well on the opposite side, we’re not getting the maximum from his capabilities.

Thiago was absolute boss tonight. One of the most complete and dominating midfield performance I have seen.

  • 120! touches
  • 91% pass accuracy
  • 5! key passes
  • 5/8 long balls
  • 7/9 ground duels
  • 3/4 aerial duels
  • 2/2 dribbles
  • 12 tackles

Phenomenal performance. These are the kind of games we brought him in.

He still can’t pass to his left though, some awful stuff going behind Robbo!

No, I didn’t say that! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yet someone questioned what he gives to us in the in game thread

Imagine this guy with VVD and Matip/ Gomez behind in, Hendo and Fabinho beside and an in form 3 of our front 4.

Graeme Souness:
If he was playing a 5-a-side game, you’d want to be on his team, otherwise you’re going home.

Stepped up the last few weeks, along with Trent were the only 2 who seemed to actually want to win today.
