Thiago Alcantara (CM) Bayern Munich

Have to be honest, there seems to be no drama with him as a person and he genuinely comes across as a down to earth bloke…think his attitude will rub off on our youngsters and he’ll find he is joining a team of other established brilliant people of a similar nature . I fucking love this club and whilst I despair at times (especially in recent years with the muppets) I will always be with them…but for the first time since our golden era it genuinely feels as though we’re onto a dynasty in the making, and I truly hope this is the case…transfers whilst being frustrating at times…are still as exciting now as they were 35 years ago to me😂

You know what? This is really the most important transfer of this summer. By far. In comparison to this one, all others pale into insignificance.

The player who made the current Champions League winner’s midfield tick like a well-oiled mechanics, changes clubs and comes to us. The fee is immaterial, it’s really the size of the player in terms of ability, overall quality and reputation which is monumental.

Of course, we don’t know how this transfer will pan out for us eventually, but in terms of quality, this is probably the most spectacular transfer for us since decades.

I struggle to remember a similar one to be honest, apart from VVD and Allisson more recently, but they came from smaller clubs. Maybe Torres? That was a big strike at the time, as he was coveted by all clubs in Europe, but Atletico was a smaller club too. All others were young 'uns we managed to catch before they were at the top, and turned into top class players.

I hope Liverpool do this but with tweets from journos covering Liverpool saying it’s not happening, that there’s been no contact etc…

That’s the wrong plane :joy: He’s already here

They will do the Chelsea press conference first imo, Klopp will sit there with a grinning face, trying to avoid questions about Thiago.

“nothing to say, very good player, etc.”

Agreed and you’re right, I cant think of any significant transfer of this ilk into Liverpool for years.

In nearly every other case we have tended to buy on potential. This is beyond that, we have bought a finished product here which is fabulous. For me, when I look at Thiago the player I’ve not had any doubt the impact he would have on our squad this term

I honestly believe if he settles, well and has a good level of availability over the term I think our chances of defending the title have increased by a decent margin. I honestly think he is that good.

will probably say he cant talk about it because he is still a Bayern player, then give us a cheeky grin

I would disagree. I think the recruitment team base their decision on most of their signings very much on what that player can do now.

To a point I think. Yes we’ve always looked at players that will add something from Day 1 but we’ve also been looking for players that have not peaked in their abilities and value.

I agree there’s very few secrets in football nowadays but Salah for example was not recognised as the player he is now when we bought him. Same with many others such as Mane, Coutinho, Torres, even Suarez.

Last one I can think that springs to mind goes back to the Dalglish era when you look at the likes of Beardsley and Barnes.

Oh…

I’ll watch the press conference now, starts in 3 min. btw. Should be fun.

Edit, Klopp said it looks quite promising, everyone should watch out to all Liverpool channels later. He can’t say something until it’s announced and he is not the announcer

Klopp basically just confirmed it. Haha

He’s also confirmed that Thiago coming in doesn’t mean anyone needs to leave. Nobody needs to leave (specifically answering a question about Wijnaldum).
