Trent ALEXANDER-ARNOLD: 2020/21

 :joy:  :joy:

What an idiot! Best defensive RB available to England by far (despite the praise others get) and 100 times better creatively than any of the others! Gareth is one of these that gets his opinions from the media who are still convinced Trent is a defensive liability (hasnā€™t been true for years and actually now itā€™s a strength not a weakness) that you use because the sacrifice defensively is worth it due to his assists. Now his assists have dropped off (because he is helping defensively more and our attack is out of form) heā€™s ā€œnot at the levelā€! Ask Real Madrid, Bayern, Barca etc. which RB in the world they would sign if they could sign ANY heā€™s top of the list.

Another dinosaur who probably thinks Wan-Bissaka is the best RB in Engerlund and therefore, the world. Chump. Itā€™s weird how much I actually want England to lose so really glad to keep him away.

I wonder if Klopp said can you be careful and Southgate went all bitchy.

If Iā€™m honest he has been much like his old self in the last month, anyhow doesnā€™t bother me, one less player that can get injured.

Very odd statement as they donā€™t usually say stuff like that.

He can still make the final squad, so letā€™s wait and see.

Liverpool fans all season - Man, Trent is all over the place and really needs to pull his head out of his arse. Maybe he just needs a rest?

Southgate - Yeah, Trentā€™s been off recently. He is still 100% in our plans and a fantastic player, but right now weā€™re going to give him a break and give a shot to some other players.

Liverpool fans - Fuck that guy.

Iā€™m personally perfectly happy in keeping Trent away whilst also being quite happy to say fuck that guy

Funny but not quite accurate.

Trent hasnā€™t been as offensive because heā€™s had more defensive duties. Also a lot of what heā€™s been creating hasnā€™t been getting finished by our of form forwards. But heā€™s been better all season than any other English RB and his bad form (just after Covid) was a while ago now.

If Gareth had said heā€™d decided it was best to rest Trent because of how much heā€™d played and needed a break fine.

But heā€™s said itā€™s because Trent hasnā€™t been performing well enoughā€¦ and then elsewhere still selected Dier.

Gareth Southgate is a limited manager who doesnā€™t know what to do with Trent. Heā€™s struggled to use him right all along. Itā€™s like when Mascherano was not being used very well at West Ham and riding the bench a lot. Rafa took him and showed the world that used right he was probably best DM in the world at the time.

ā€œEveryone thinks they have the prettiest wife at home.ā€ - Wenger in response to Alex Fergusonā€™s criticism over the way Arsenal went about winning the double in 2002.

That still makes me chuckle to this day. As does Ferguson losing his shit over it. Haha.

I am glad Trent hasnā€™t been selected. He can have a good rest. He has played alot of football without a break. Once, he has been rejuvenated, he can show what he can do in the Champions League and can be reconsidered later for the Euros.

Iā€™m delighted, Liverpool comes first and Trent could do with the rest.

Nah, for me, itā€™s always a mixture of whatā€™s best for us and also whatā€™s good for the player. Itā€™s not all about fitness, itā€™s about the playersā€™ mood as well. I want all of them to be international players, itā€™s just logic. But of course, you donā€™t want situations like Keita with Guinea, to give a bad example last time. Iā€™m disappointed for Trent, but then there are also some reasons why heā€™s in this situation. I still think he might make it. Southgate might see this as a ā€œwake upā€ signal before the final announcement.

Good news all round this. Our player gets a rest and a kick up the arse if he wants to make the Euros. Should focus his mind on the remainder of the season. He has been well below the level we know he is capable of.

What Iā€™m worried about is what effect this will have on Trent.

He will want to go this summer to the Euros (edited to point out this that I thought was obvious but clearly wasnā€™t). Clearly his thankless task of putting extra efforts in for us defensively has been lost or not understood by those responsible for if he goes.

For him, if thatā€™s a strong enough motivation, it seems the best thing for him to do is be a little more lax on his extra responsibilities and really go all out being an influence on our goal scoring attempts.

I donā€™t think everyone appreciates how fantastic he has been recently and how instrumental he has been in our make shift back line working well and putting clean sheet performances in. It might cost us a few points here and there if he goes more gung ho. Might get him in the squad for the summer though.

Southgate may be shitting his pants at the idea of fielding an attacking back like TAA but he isnā€™t moronic enough not to select him altogether for the Euros.

Unfortunately.

What the fuck???

One can appreciate the accommodations Trent has made and still think heā€™s off his level. That Chelsea goal is a prime example.

If youā€™re going by the idea that the best players regardless of form get picked, which at this level thereā€™s a decent argument for, especially with someone as good as Trent, then he gets picked every time. But he is playing at a level that simply doesnt justify automatic selection, especially when there are other good options who the team might benefit from by giving them more international exposure.
