What an idiot! Best defensive RB available to England by far (despite the praise others get) and 100 times better creatively than any of the others! Gareth is one of these that gets his opinions from the media who are still convinced Trent is a defensive liability (hasnāt been true for years and actually now itās a strength not a weakness) that you use because the sacrifice defensively is worth it due to his assists. Now his assists have dropped off (because he is helping defensively more and our attack is out of form) heās ānot at the levelā! Ask Real Madrid, Bayern, Barca etc. which RB in the world they would sign if they could sign ANY heās top of the list.
Another dinosaur who probably thinks Wan-Bissaka is the best RB in Engerlund and therefore, the world. Chump. Itās weird how much I actually want England to lose so really glad to keep him away.
Liverpool fans all season - Man, Trent is all over the place and really needs to pull his head out of his arse. Maybe he just needs a rest?
Southgate - Yeah, Trentās been off recently. He is still 100% in our plans and a fantastic player, but right now weāre going to give him a break and give a shot to some other players.
Trent hasnāt been as offensive because heās had more defensive duties. Also a lot of what heās been creating hasnāt been getting finished by our of form forwards. But heās been better all season than any other English RB and his bad form (just after Covid) was a while ago now.
If Gareth had said heād decided it was best to rest Trent because of how much heād played and needed a break fine.
But heās said itās because Trent hasnāt been performing well enoughā¦ and then elsewhere still selected Dier.
Gareth Southgate is a limited manager who doesnāt know what to do with Trent. Heās struggled to use him right all along. Itās like when Mascherano was not being used very well at West Ham and riding the bench a lot. Rafa took him and showed the world that used right he was probably best DM in the world at the time.
āEveryone thinks they have the prettiest wife at home.ā - Wenger in response to Alex Fergusonās criticism over the way Arsenal went about winning the double in 2002.
That still makes me chuckle to this day. As does Ferguson losing his shit over it. Haha.
I am glad Trent hasnāt been selected. He can have a good rest. He has played alot of football without a break. Once, he has been rejuvenated, he can show what he can do in the Champions League and can be reconsidered later for the Euros.
Nah, for me, itās always a mixture of whatās best for us and also whatās good for the player. Itās not all about fitness, itās about the playersā mood as well. I want all of them to be international players, itās just logic. But of course, you donāt want situations like Keita with Guinea, to give a bad example last time. Iām disappointed for Trent, but then there are also some reasons why heās in this situation. I still think he might make it. Southgate might see this as a āwake upā signal before the final announcement.
Good news all round this. Our player gets a rest and a kick up the arse if he wants to make the Euros. Should focus his mind on the remainder of the season. He has been well below the level we know he is capable of.
What Iām worried about is what effect this will have on Trent.
He will want to go this summer to the Euros (edited to point out this that I thought was obvious but clearly wasnāt). Clearly his thankless task of putting extra efforts in for us defensively has been lost or not understood by those responsible for if he goes.
For him, if thatās a strong enough motivation, it seems the best thing for him to do is be a little more lax on his extra responsibilities and really go all out being an influence on our goal scoring attempts.
I donāt think everyone appreciates how fantastic he has been recently and how instrumental he has been in our make shift back line working well and putting clean sheet performances in. It might cost us a few points here and there if he goes more gung ho. Might get him in the squad for the summer though.
Southgate may be shitting his pants at the idea of fielding an attacking back like TAA but he isnāt moronic enough not to select him altogether for the Euros.
One can appreciate the accommodations Trent has made and still think heās off his level. That Chelsea goal is a prime example.
If youāre going by the idea that the best players regardless of form get picked, which at this level thereās a decent argument for, especially with someone as good as Trent, then he gets picked every time. But he is playing at a level that simply doesnt justify automatic selection, especially when there are other good options who the team might benefit from by giving them more international exposure.
