ESPN has a story from last week in response to this about how Owen allegedly didnt even know what it was when Houllier broke the news to him that he’d won it. There are a lot of ways football is better than it was 20 years ago, but this is one of those ways that it is FAR worse.

Just overall quality (although that isnt referring to entertainment value) and the training and tactical advancement that has gone into producing that.

I think this is swings and roundabouts.
Cricket and probably rugby are maybe parallels and the common thing is the facilities. Uneven pitches taught different skills - the modern day cricketer, footballer or rugby player just have different base programming.
Moving the chains, nutrition and access to a more mailable pool is a bit of a game changer also but again the skill sets are different.
The theatre is the same.

This fella needs to forget about fucking Ballon Dors and get back to being the best right-back at the football club because right now he’s not even that.
Looks to me like all the publicity and nonsense spoken/written about him has gone to his head. He’s lost sight of the basics and is paying too much attention to those massaging his ego and it’s not doing him any favours.
He might have had a hand in the 2 goals today but his all-round performance was fucking abysmal.

Let’s face it, it’s only given added salience now that there are rumours around him, even though he’s said he wants to extend his contract.

The criticism TAA’s getting in here because he dare say that he’d like to win an award, when asked, is getting out of hand.
His passing wasn’t good, which is a running theme lately but otherwise he was doing his best. Martinelli gave him big problems, which is no surprise, but at least he wasn’t getting by him unchallenged like on previous occasions.
There is a lot of people all too ready to tear him down because they are convinced he’s leaving.

I feel it’s a matter of inconsistency rather than just being bad in general. Some absolutely bad ones yes, but they tend to stand out in the memory more so than the rest.
He has defended really well all season. That was his first poor game and Robbo was worse on the other side. I just think people don’t like one of their own ‘getting above their station’

I’m not complaining about trent’s performance this match.
The whole Liverpool team was dire AF in the first half.
And yeah , it’s high time we get a replacement for Andy. He’s done. He’s been magnificent for us but father time and all.

I think that in addition to what you said, people are also underestimating the fact that Martinelli and Saka are quite challenging opponents to be facing. I thought he did decently well, although Robertson was underperforming his usual standards.
He could have done better with his attacking contributions, but I think defensively he can’t really be blamed for anything.

I’m not sure “he’s done”, but this is the first match in a while that he’s been really poor. A replacement was always going to be on the cards for the future, but perhaps it hasn’t been a priority because we may rate the kids we have on the books for that position? I’m thinking Chambers and Scanlon, although I think @Sweeting doesn’t think either can make the cut.
For Alexander-Arnold, I think even if he does leave, we still have Bradley, and then for a backup it would have to be seen if Ramsay can make the cut or not, otherwise it’s going to be a new contract for Joe Gomez. Lifetime contract until he scores.
