So Trent goes.
Liverpool legend.
So Trent goes.
Liverpool legend.
Plenty of players have used LFC to get higher wages at their own club,TAA could be doing the same thing.
Must have missed that announcement
Either way , he goes or he stays…
Still a Liverpool legend
Why? I’m not seeing it…
There was huge backlash against Gerrard when Chelsea looked to take him to London. How is this situation so different that TAA is essentially given a hero’s exit if he decides to go?
Trent has won everything with us and he is not leaving for a domestic rival.
Firstly, TAA is no Gerrard.
Secondly , Read GermanRed’s post
As he has the chance to win everything again with us he doesn’t need to go do it in a weaker league. Chelsea were winning the league with us finishing 5th and nowhere near them, not exactly domestic rivals. We would also have got a significant fee at the time, something which we won’t with Trent.
I’m not asking why no backlash against Trent, only wondering why there was so much vitriol against Gerrard but nothing from what I can see against TAA.
I didn’t think they were the same person
Trent is out of contract, Gerrard was under contract and had decided he wanted to play for another team.
My main concern is that this does not in any way affect our focus this season.
Other than that, I’m fine whether he stays or leaves…in the summer that is…
Yes.
And (not aimed at you), any negative talk about Gerrard is not really taking into account that whatever happened in the stages of his decision, he stayed. With whatever cost that had to his trophy tally and worldwide legendary reputation. Whether he changed his mind two or three or more times, what counts is the outcome, which is that he sacrificed his career dreams for his club dreams (which, given all parameters at the time, was the dilemma he was facing).
An absolute legend, and my favourite player to wear the red along with Dalglish and Bobby.
Was there ever any truth in the claims that gangland figures had threatened to kidnap his dad if he left ?
Nothing concrete but certainly plenty of suggestions.
His official excuse for wanting the move was Rick Parry didn’t call him the day after Istanbul and that hurt his feeling and made him feel unwanted.
Whatever. Could have left anyway. He stayed.

Well yes but I think the overall feeling was simply that he didn’t feel valued by Liverpool, while Chelsea were offering a huge pay increase and the opportunity to work with a manager and board who were making strong commitments to him.
It’s no secret that Gerrard and Benitez had a rollercoaster relationship and Liverpool had been far from a final location for players, even local ones, for a long time in 2004/2005. He wanted his flowers for being the catalyst of a most unlikely CL win (in a season that his future was being regularly discussed) but instead he had a manager who in his opinion was cold and nit-picky and a board that hadn’t contacted him about a new contract. Gerrard always was a bit sensitive but I can see why he felt like things probably weren’t great and that the grass might be greener somewhere else, at least until he got to the summer and had some time to reflect.
Nothing to do with all the pound notes Roman was waving under his nose.
It’s not official until announced, so still hypothetical (even though he’s 99% off imo). Just a couple of arguments I don’t understand:
1 - “He’s won everything”: Yes, once (hopefully twice come the end of the season, but still). So? Why not do it again and again? This is a great team after all, not like many mediocre sides of the past. Which leads to:
2 - “He wants to try another experience”: That’s fine, he’s a professional footballer. If you’re an actual boyhood fan local lad though, and you’d still rather leave even seeing how the team is going…
Finally, from a more pragmatic point of view: it’s another position to strengthen with no money to make up for it, not ideal.
Happy new year
