Almost as if he had a broken toe. Almost.
It’s not the club that they would be trying to unsettle, it’s the fans, as can be seen by this entire thread.
Did he? Played well with one then. I like that in a human, fuck the injury and win the game. Character. Sturridge being the perfect example.
Real trying to unsettle Liverpool fans… yeah, not buying that at all.
It’s just normal transfer rumours and links, big deal. There are no quotes from Real or dirty stuff, at least so far.
Active thread, pretty normal in this situation also.
Guess his celebration on the weekend was just completely random then.
Don’t see any problem in his performances and behaviour.
Impossible not to have any noise, so far it’s been all normal and professional from Liverpool, Real and Trent.
Trent’s departure really annoys me, since I’m a huge fan, and it might cost Liverpool a €100m asset. But football-wise, I’m kinda optimistic.
Trent’s got some amazing qualities - he’s arguably the world’s best crosser, his vision’s incredible, and his creativity’s rare. But let’s be real, we all knew his limitations. His focus was inconsistent, and he struggled defensively. Plus, his risky plays made us vulnerable. With Trent and Salah on the same side, our right midfielder had to cover a ton of ground defensively. We saw how hard Szoboszlai and Henderson had to work to cover them both.
Replacing Trent will definitely change our game plan, but it also gives us a chance to fix some major weaknesses we’ve had for ages. We’re already seeing Salah benefit from more freedom this season. It’s a trade-off, but will be 50-50 chance to make us better.
Gravenberch is also doing a good job providing balance on that side as the RCM.
We’ll see, no escaping the fact that we’re losing a big player. But there are different ways how to replace someone and simply continue with our evolution in the best possible way.
You might have slightly missed my point there……
Fully agree both brilliant players, but the timing is equally important.
In his first year Alonso broke his ankle and missed half the season. Didi was also in decline and picking up injuries (which is why Houllier had bought Diouf, and Rafa later Sissoko).
Both players legends in my book (I don’t say that lightly), but in the summer of 2005, Didi got an extra year contract extension, while Alonso was a gem of a player whose talent (and what he would become) was yet to be fully realised.
While it might be true about Real interest, I think it’s very likely he might re-sign with us. There is nothing wrong for him to push this all the way till April or May, when he probably will have a better clarity of what he himself wants
He can leave on a free but after Real’s insulting offer I’d have a big “FUCK OFF” automated message set up for them.
Same for Barcelona for what they tried with Diaz last season.
Don’t mind transfer negotiations and sometimes things spill into the media etc but those two clubs own “respected media” in AS and that other one that Barca use to unsettle players and plant stories I think it’s really shady.
It’s been happening for decades, both clubs are scum.
For what it’s worth I don’t think Trent is what they need. That team that rocked up at Anfield was defensively so weak that good teams are going to exploit it, as we did easily.
I love Trent and wish the best for him but I do think he is susceptible to becoming someone who believes his own hype, he was turning into it at the end of Klopp’s reign, and without the careful management that Slot has reportedly carried out with him (that has seen a hige upturn in his defensive performance) I can easily see him slipping into “I’ll do whatever I want” mode that we have seen before.
The issue for Real is that they already have quite a few starters with that same mentality. I don’t think it’ll be successful.
I’m more cautious about that as I think precisely because of what he mentions about Arne’s coaching and tactical directions, he does seem to be quite aware of his own limitations.
That said, because he’s not particularly vocal about many things, it’s probably quite easy for us fans to just project whatever we think and feel onto him.
Not convinced his first choice is to move to Madrid, however. Especially with these antics from Real, considering he said he wanted to do his contract negotiations behind closed doors rather than in the meida.
Maybe, we’ll never know I guess. Just funny how Steven Gerrard appears to be the only player in history to be forced to stay at a club by “gangsters”, whatever that means in this context, when other clubs are essentially ran by gangs in the form of Ultras.
Think people watch too many gangster TV shows.
The man himself explained it in his book - he didn’t get a new contract after the final, he felt unwanted and Chelsea made a big show of much they valued him. Eventually, after a few months, Liverpool brought him a contract offer and he decided to stay.
Moores and Parry were still stuck in the old Liverpool mindset of “You’re just lucky to play for us” which hadn’t been true in a decade.
That story makes enough sense to me that I don’t need to add in some rumours of gangster stuff.
Is Gerrard leaving? Should we start another thread so we can discuss Trent on this one?
‘No-one has ever won all their matches, and we’ll be waiting by winning all our matches.’
Trent is going…
There have always been rumours of underworld connections concerning top players on Merseyside. Didn’t Michael Owen have a very shady mate?
This also springs to mind regarding Kenny and Rooney’s dubious dealings.
