Which is fine if you have the time to learn every under-18 prospect at every club, like @Sweeting , but not for those of us who actually have a life.
@Sweeting
Poor old you, who doesn’t have a life…
Thanks for making ours better and easier.
Fwiw I think the names on shirts predates the boom in shirt sales, although I might be wrong. Either way, it’s useful, as are numbers on shirts.
Retiring numbers is stupid.
The Athletic say that although there have been rumours of a change of heart from him, he’s still expected to join Real Madid. Alonso’s arrival probably bodes well for him, I think he will be more adaptable to Trent’s qualities than Ancelotti would have been.
Still, I’m so saddened that he’ll join that band of entitled tossers instead of knuckling down and becoming an all-time legend here.
I think he would have been fine either way. One of Ancelotti’s strengths is that he adapts to the players he has in his squad. Where Alonso’s arrival may help is that it will feel a fresher environment to work in with less of a hangover from this season’s disappointing performances/ results.
On the contrary , I think Ancelotti would have adapted to featuring Trent in the team much more than what a Xabi does. Xabi is pretty much shoehorned into the 3 at the back as of now.
Trent as a hybrid RM/RWB in a 3 -4 -3might be risky considering that pace isn’t his strong suit and there’s no one there in madrid who’s going to provide him support defensively.
Ancelotti would stick with Trent as a RB and then try and replicate to the most possible extent what worked for Trent under Liverpool.
Valverde, Rodrygo and Militao (if fit)/Rudiger or someone else at RCB… that is very good cover for Trent.
I think time will make us soften the criticism of Trent.
What he’s achieved for the club so far in his career makes him probably the best RB for the club(in the PL era atleast). Whether that qualifies for him to be mentioned alongside VVD , Alisson & Mo , I don’t know.
In Ancelotti’s formation yes. But I see him being a square peg in a round hole under Xabi.
Find that hard to believe given the plaudits given to Frimpong?
Frimpong has immense speed. That’s not what Trent has. He never was the quickest.
I want Trent to have a good time at Madrid (except when it’s against us). Hopefully he’ll inject some class and dignity into that bunch of entitled twats and not turn into one himself.
Thing is, he’d be another player who would need the team to be adjusted to his qualities. He’s different to Carvajal - then again, I don’t think there’s a right back with similar qualities out there.
Like you said, Alonso’s arrival gives something of a clean tactical slate to everyone involved, so I think it will be easier for Trent to blend into their side than it would have been in an already established tactical setup.
I criticised him because of his patchy form since the end of 2021/22 - not because I had something against him but because I knew how good he could be at his best. Unless he does a U-turn and extends, I wish that post-2021/22 form will be the best he can play at Real Madrid - because I’m a hurt, emotional football fan.
Valverde’s main role in the side is to cover the entire right side of the pitch from box to box.
I’ve got no problem with Trent, but lots of problems with Real.
I thought he was leaving RM.
hypothetical situation
As it stands, 66 will never be retired, it is also way down the list of numbers that could, yet shouldn’t be retired.
Can’t be that difficult coz he’s used to talking shit
If he does go, I want him to have a miserable silverware barren stay, while watching Liverpool claiming multiple titles/cups
