Yeah, I meant ideally.
Ps, just checked and JoGo will be back after the Arsenal game.

Which also won’t happen. Michael Owen became a club ambassador.
Didn’t Ian Rush also leave? I know he came back but he went to Juve. Why was he allowed to have a life out side of Liverpool and still be a legend?
Yeah, it’s not like we will find out something new about Bradley if he plays the last 270 minutes. Trent will still feature I think. It’s the weekend-midweek-weekeend rhythm where Bradley will have to prove he can be in the team and play a lot of games. Bradley at this very moment can play, but we also have to be careful with him. Not to ruin his summer. Then we’ll make a decision who will be our two RB options for next season.
Owen is still treated like a pariah.
Rush didn’t run his contract down for a fat signing-on fee , and was back the next year.
It’s complicated…
Ah well. Saw the video announcement. A little disappointed but it’s his life.
Fare thee Well Trent.
I think with TAA, he’s part of a generation of younger players brought up on video games and social media, He would’ve seen Real Madrid win the Champions League 6 times since 2014, two of those against us, his best mate is there, playing with the world’s best players in another legendary stadium, and with far better weather. He strikes me as wanting to experience as much as possible, and, like Sweeting says, the idea of being a club legend is questionable, especially since he’s won the lot with us. I don’t begrudge him this move, even though I would’ve liked some sort of transfer fee (a small chance we still get one with the Club World Cup registration), and I can understand why a lifelong Liverpool fan who has spent most of his life with us would want a move like this.
Rush also didnt want to leave. That was back in the day where players didn’t have much power, and 3 point something million then was an astronomical amount of money hence the club feeling they had to take it.
Owen is treated differently because he was believed to have threatened to have left on a free if Liverpool didn’t accept Real Madrid’s lowball offer. Having lost Macca on a free already, the club felt they had to sell him.
Upon leaving Real Madrid, he then opted to join Newcastle when asked by Rafa to hold out so that Liverpool could negotiate a lower fee with Real Madrid.
Then he went to play for Utd.
TAA is already a Liverpool legend. Only Phil Neal gets ahead of him and that’s no small feat at 26. Losing him is going to be a blow, no doubt about it.
He better be absolutely certain that this is what he wants. Judging from the past, I very much doubt that he’ll ever return to Liverpool as a player and no one will take kindly to him playing for another English club, so I sincerely hope he does well over there on a personal level and domestically.
Owen isn’t liked by the fans but still became a club ambassador after leaving, turning down the chance to come back twice and signing for Man Utd. He did far more than simply go to Spain to earn pariah status yet was still welcomed back with that ambassador role and little wooden seat in the directors box that Trent apparently has to still earn.
I’d never realised that. I thought he had wanted to go. I guess that might help explain why he didn’t settle so easily.
I’m disappointed, but this is no big surprise. It’s nice that he and the club have timed the announcement so it didn’t spoil the title winning weekend but there is still plenty of time until we lift the trophy.
I had hoped that he would set some records for us in terms of longevity, appearances and captaincy, but that’s not to be. I just hope that Real do value him. I have a bad feeling that he is going to end up like Gareth Bale, who pretty much wasted his best years with them. Maybe Trent likes Golf?
3 leagues and 5 CLs. And for all the stuff about him being marginalized, it was only the last CL he didnt really play a significant part in.
People have their own self serving versions of stories like this, especially when told years after the fact, but he has always told it as him being sent into the director’s office and told it was too much money to turn down, especially with the uncertainties regarding the Hysel ban.
He also rejects the “didnt settle” narrative. It was a transitional time for Juve, Rush wasnt really thrilled about the football they played, and so everyone cut their losses, but the whole “it was like being in a different country” is a joke told by Kenny, and one Rush didnt particularly like.
My feelings exactly. He’s given us some great memories and I wish him well at Madrid (except when we play them).
We move on. I’m excited to see Conor develop as first choice. Hope he can stay injury free and become a Liverpool and NI legend
I suppose we all knew really…but…never wanted him to go…and the big but is…will he end up a squad player and play as n when…or every game…and have LFC given him the option of a return…would we have him???..
Thing about Macca is that he was a better player than that and was successful at Real because he reinvented himself as a water carrier. Not sure Trent has that nor his game would suit any midfield role on offer, although things may change with a new manager. I think as long as Real are winning he’ll be okay but if anything goes wrong he’ll start being whistled for every misplaced pass (and there will be many if he plays like he has been, let’s face it) and I can see him being scapegoated and wanting to come back before 2 seasons are up.
Bugger, I’ll need a new avatar for next season.
Bollocks. Winning the PL and CL as captain to go with what he’s already achieved? Clear legendary status. Ultimately compare the likes of King Kenny and Souness - both won lots but guess (even before being a manager for us and the s*n) which everyone would say has the better life. What you do on the pitch in the city you retire in matters.
What an idiotic post.
