That’s probably more to do with confirming his decision though than simply announcing it to the club for the first time.
By transfer listing him if they don’t want to cough up and threatening to stick him in the reserves. It’s brinkmanship at the end of the day and we should play the cunts at their own game.
So he says fine, I’ll wait it out for a year. Then he speaks to the PFA who’ll say we can’t be deliberately detrimental to his career. Now what?
Then Bradley, Gomez and Quansah are all unavailable in the midst of a title challenge and we have to play Endo there whilst Trent is out in the cold.
Of course you could tempt Madrid into doing something by taking this approach but now you’re actively looking to sell an unhappy player with a year left on his deal who you’re paying £200k a week to sit in the reserves. What are they going to pay you in that situation?
It’s only brinkmanship if you’ve got a hand to play and clubs have a lot weaker hand than players, as Trent has just shown.

This is a good point, and it applies all the more at the top end of the game.

In order to qualify to be a Real Madrid player he was instructed to run his contract down.
He could have taken more money at LFC with a release clause. In running his contract down he chose himself over LFC. He deserves to be judged accordingly for that.

I don’t know what else Carragher has or hasn’t done, but what he said in the clip above was fair enough.
Trent is entitled to see out his contract and move on.
Liverpool fans are entitled to feel however they wish to feel about that.
Fans of other clubs shouldn’t be telling Liverpool fans how they should feel.
I think all those things are reasonable enough.

We want to move on from Nunez this summer so will be encouraging him to break his contract and go somewhere else so we can get someone we think is better. Seems pretty shitty behaviour on our part.

100% we will. And we’ll happily be on the beneficial end when it suits us.
Imagine Jonathan David rocks up for nothing this summer. No one here gives a shit what Lille feels about the situation. There’ll be zero moral outrage about him doing what he thinks is best for him. No one will think we should have done the decent thing and paid them a few quid for him last summer instead.
New shiny toy acquired, muscles flexed, more money to spend elsewhere. We’ll be delighted (subject to your opinion of the player).
