Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) Real Madrid

Really don’t mind TAA leaving on a free.

I wish him all the success in madrid (as long as it isn’t against us).

The employment law specialists we deal with says its hard to say so because they haven’t done anything wrong.

Plausible deniability.

They did admit to tapping up in the end, but the club believed they had the right to speak to him, which it turned out we didn’t.

It isn’t so bad if you at least get a fee, but if they are doing it 2 years before a contract runs out so they can get a player for free then it isn’t very good for us.

Sorry, i don’t quite understand your post here.
Tapping up is to do with the act and timing of the contact, not the outcome from that contact.

But tapping up is ultimately aimed at rhe player breaking his contract Trent hasn’t done that.

Breach of contract and tapping up are two different things.

From a 2023 article in the New York Times, or Athletic…

Tapping up is considered one of the more significant business infractions a club can make. If a club is reported and found guilty of the activity, they can be handed financial punishments or even transfer window bans. The Premier League rulebook is clear on what does and does not constitute proper behaviour when signing players. Rule T.1.2 explains that “a contracted player, either by himself or by any person on his behalf, shall not either directly or indirectly make any such approach as is referred to in Rule T.5 without having obtained the prior written consent of his club”.

Rule T.6 makes it clear that agents cannot advertise their players to prospective clubs “without having obtained the prior written consent of his (the player’s current) club”.

If you are wondering why football managers do not name individual players when asked about possible transfers, that is because of Rule T.8, which states “a statement made publicly by or on behalf of a club expressing interest in acquiring the registration of a contract player or by a contract player expressing interest in transferring his registration to another club shall, in either case, be treated as an indirect approach”.

The Fish lawyer spoke about how cases of tapping up tended to focus on tortious interference claims because that is where the damage comes in, but they are not the same thing.

You can be selective and find these same clips with Liverpool fans about signings we made. Doubt many actual Real Madrid fans are watching Liverpool every week, including the ones quoting BBC Sport saying “Be careful you are taking the worst the best worst it’s not what it seems”.

I remember that too Mascot. As I’ve said before, I’m sick of the likes of Real playing by different rules. I say we tell them they can’t have Trent early unless they pay a substantial fee (~5m). Fuck em’.

I like it! I can just imagine the spiel: high intensity interval bed rest will give you better results than boring ol’ low intensity long duration rest/sleep. Rest hard for 3 minutes 5 times a day and you can shave hours off your ‘lost productivity’ at night.

Just checked the OED:

Transitive, intransitive. embiggen (something): to endow it with Trumpian qualities; to make it even more shite; to turn it into a bigger laughing stock.

eg. There are plans to embiggen AFTV with a LegoMan quotes section
