Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) Real Madrid

What has booing got to do with human decency?

We boo players every week?

Errol from redmentv puts it right saying that he feels he is being booed, because he has hurt so many of them, thoughout this whole saga.

I have already said why I think it was a natural conclusion that he would be booed by some. I wouldn’t have, but it’s not as if it should be surprising when he leaves on a free. Some will see that as a form of treason, because that is how many football fans will feel. I don’t feel it is a grand betrayal, but I 'm also not very happy about how he left, though I admit I don’t know the details, but count me skeptical.

But it is what is.

Robertson

“There’s a lot of emotion around it and I think it’s crucial in these moments that I don’t tell you how to feel and you don’t tell me how to feel about it.

“So all I can tell you is how I feel about it. Now, first of all, I’m disappointed to lose my best mate in the game.

“We’ve done it all together. He’s an amazing player, an amazing person, and, yeah, he’s made me a better player and that’s from the bottom of my heart.”

“He’s took me to levels I never knew existed,” Robertson added.

“He kept pushing me through, through the good years, and he’s made a choice.

“So, you know, I think he’s like you say, this club is there for everyone to see, the trophies he’s won, the moments he’s had in history will always be there.

“And it is, of course, it’s an emotional decision and it’s not been an easy one, but he’s made the decision and it’s not nice to see your friend get booed and it wasn’t nice.

“But like I said, we can’t tell people how to act, but I can tell you how I feel about it. I’m extremely proud of him for what he’s done for this club.

“I love him as a friend, I love him as a player and he’ll be missed. He’ll maybe missed for me is one of my best friends in the game, so that’s how I feel about it and I’m not going to tell anyone else how to feel about it.”

A very mature response.

Robbo should be booed next week.

That’s what we do at this Club. We’re known for that.

We don’t boo Liverpool players every week. I can’t remember ever booing a Liverpool player and I bet most on here are the same.

I booed that Merino prick though.

I wouldn’t have booed, but then I am not a scouser, my life isn’t LFC so for me mentioning decency and calling those that booed, scum (not you) doesn’t sit right with me.

Those that booed Trent probably idolised him and his decision has hurt them severely, so their reaction is understandable.

Us that have supported Liverpool for a long time have seen, on numerous occasions our best players leave, for some it is new and the hurt is real.

Bradley was on a yellow and seemed to be struggling against Trossard. Gomez isn’t ready, Quansah probably wasn’t the best idea in the circumstances. I don’t see what else he was supposed to do. Once Trent was on the bench, there was a chance he’d come on at some point.

The game was ultimately meaningless. He could have brought anyone on

Nope. Bringing on Trent wasn’t Slot’s brightest move, Quansah or even Endo would have been fine. Slot has still a lot to learn about Liverpool, and unfortunately underestimated the situation and the backlash. I very much doubt that Klopp would have done that.

Anyway, it’s done. Hopefully we won’t see Trent again.

It is kind of unrelated, but some would probably be of the opinion that Trent (or anyone else, not important that it’s Trent here) should not have played after the leauge was won and it was clear that he was leaving. It is not entirely unreasonable then, to at least temporarily advance up a right back from reserves to the bench, and then bring on that guy in remaining games instead.

Anyway, that was my final word (I hope) on the matter. This is contentious, that is clear, and I don’t want to argue with anyone over this. I withdraw

Bring on a left back at right back?

BTW if Trent had scored that freekick or setup a winner, those booing would have bee applauding or cheering.

Slots decision, did spoil the party atmostphere and even resulted in altercations between fans in the stand.

Joe ŵas pretty good last year doing it the other way round plus Trossard cuts in on his right :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Eh, sure,. You got me in a brain fart. Hope you are happy

Slot should use the playing resources at his disposal. Bradley played well. He’s misses a lot of football so needed his minutes to be managed a bit. Trent came on. I can’t fault Slot for that.

Trent had his say. The crowd had their say (not my style and not something I would have done, but I also don’t want to blow it out of proportion. It’s a bit like a scorned lover reacting sub-optimally. I understand it, given the emotions involved).

Onwards and upwards.

Hopefully today’s expression of displeasure draws a line under it, and it’s now all about celebrating a fantastic Premier League title.
