Good. I don’t think this is something we should attack each other for having a variety of opinions about. I suspect this thread is about to become toxic, and I kind of want to leave it, having said my piece (dislike football banter getting toxic, as I reserve my anger for politics and war/peace; or try at least, as we all fail at times).
I’d wager that this is exactly what will happen. I noted in the post-match thread that Trent was applauded throughout Anfield when he nearly scored from a goal kick a bit later on.
It was a one-off to show him that the fans aren’t happy about his decision. He’ll have expected it, got his message, and that’s it. No big deal.
Helpful to read that perspective, thanks. Though I don’t think anyone is asking for a fairytale ending etc. I don’t feel sorry for Trent. Like you say, he’s made his bed. I just don’t like to see our fans booing a player in a Liverpool shirt, and the negativity it brings to the stadium, and the media that are keen to take the shine off our celebrations.
Perfectly reasonable for anyone to be sad about the booing or disappointed.
Anyone calling fans moronic or idiotic fails to understand the city and how important the collective attitude of the city is to LFC’s success and popularity.
Scousers are spiteful when they feel wronged. Always have been. It’s in the fabric of the city, of the fans and of the club.
You can’t just take that away and expect the same atmospheres that create the special nights.
I didn’t boo, myself. Thought singing Bradley’s song, Gerrard’s song and belting out ‘Barcelona, Real Madrid who the fuck ya tryna kid’ was a perfect response.
Tell ya what as well, would have been easy for him to slump straight down the tunnel but he didn’t hide at all, clapped every stand at full time.
I don’t know what the TV showed but when he clapped the Kop and got booed, Dom gestured to the Kop as if to say “what are you doing lads”. Looked disappointed.
Jeez can’t believe people are questioning if Trent should have been brought on.
He’s still our player, we still pay his wages and he still trains with the squad. Slot shouldn’t have a second thought about picking him, bringing him on or taking him off. He has games to win and if he feels he needed to bring him on then so be it.
This is a situation of Trent’s making. He needs to be professional and deal with whatever reaction comes his way. I doubt what boos there were came as a total shock to him.
His bed to lie in, Slot has every right to do what he wants.
Its raw at the moment…everyone wants to offer their two pennath…I’ve said what I think…I would love him to stay…but ‘kicking him in the wotsits’ while he’s on the field of play…didnt do much for his game…Best thing to do is sit n.ponder all the posts…don’t like em..or don’t agree…don’t answer em…as i said no-one wants him to leave…but its happened…and time marches on…
Not blaming Slot but I’m sure there would have been close to no boos under Klopp.
Actually think he’d would have started Trent today (or at least vs Palace) and make sure that he would receive standing ovations after substitution. That’s how great he was in his pre match press conferences and match day programs.
The well deserved send off will still happen but will feel different after today.
I would feel different if we were still in a battle for the title, because we have won it, I am more for seeing what options we can use, who are with us next year when Bradley tires.
I do hope that Trent gets on against Palace to applaud his efforts and would hope people then cheer him for that.
Leave him out the squad entirely and Slot will be accused by some fans of shunning him.
Put him on the bench but bring Quansah on instead of him and Slot will be accused by some fans of embarrassing him.
Start him and some fans will ask why Slot isn’t playing Bradley instead.
To be honest, there’s no perfect option and so Slot did what he thought best. It’s not him that’s brought this circus on and so Trent just has to take what comes his way.
Scousers aren’t any different to any other fanbase when it’s feeling scorned and betrayed. Some will boo, some will call names and some will do worse. They’ll react stupidly like anywhere else. I’m sorry but booeing your own player in a match against a rival is stupid and being close to Liverpool doesn’t offer protection against stupidity. After all, there are plenty of Scousers supporting Everton.
Proximity to Anfield and Merseyside is not what differentiates Scousers from the rest. What sets Scousers apart is their sense of community and togetherness, the solidarity towards one another, their spirit. It’s the YNWA.
Thats absolute tosh its because he’s scouse they feel aggrieved. Half the fuck wits wouldn’t bat an eyelid at selling Jones that wouldn’t make a difference him been scouse.
I was there today. Got behind the lad when he was on the pitch but I don’t like him as a footballer or on a personal level. Didn’t expect the amount of booing but wouldn’t condemn anyone who gave him shit.
People need to remember he’s not a Liverpool fan. Players are different, they don’t see things the same way supporters do. He’s a lad who grew up in Liverpool and went on to play for the club, that is all.
He’s chosen to go and play for a club who robbed him of a CL medal when he was 19 years old. He’s gone on a freebie to line his own pockets.
He can fuck off as far as I’m concerned. A supremely talented footballer but a shite full back and probably a shite midfielder if given the chance to play there.
I’ve never been less arsed about one of our starting 11 leaving.
