Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) Real Madrid

I think that is the main point, and the real choice for Trent. In Madrid, he’ll merely be a squad player, and will have to earn anything beyond that status with top performances during every single match.

He has probably had the occasion to talk with Mac Manaman about his Madrid experience: winning a lot of trophies, but being essentially played as a super-sub, and it will surely weigh in his decision.

Neto is a quality player and a totally different proposition. I thought he dealt with both of them really well

Yeah, I said it in the game thread but the only time he really got “beaten” by Neto was when he allowed him to come inside to where he would have expected a lot of traffic to be there to help him out and all of a sudden the defense collapsed on itself giving Neto a good amount of room to run into.

I think the funniest shit I’ve seen on Twitter is the “clear pen” Trent conceded against Sancho lol.

Saw some social media chatter about this today.

Had to look it up. WTAF?!?!?

Not sure if Indy Kalia is one of those banned sources (certainly frowned upon) so not adding a link, but his breaking news tonight is that Trent wants to stay, but the sticking point at the moment is the signing on fee.

Doesn’t Indykalia work in KFC?

The old guy with the hammer!

Definitely Liverpool. It’s too bloody hot in Madrid and it’s nowhere near a beach. Is Trent a golfer? If he is then he’s got some of the world’s best golf courses on his doorstep in the Liverpool area.

Anyway, I think he will go, if only so he can avoid regretting not going when he had the opportunity. I would like to see him sign a MacAllister type of contract whereby we get a fee if a CL team makes an offer of X amount for him. The contract should also give us first option should he decide to leave RM.

Real will offer a fuck-you-I’m-a-virus clause - they will take him for free and flog him after one season for huge bucks to one of our direct rivals and then try and unsettle our replacement.

ive spent about a week all up in madrid and a bit longer in Liverpool…id rather be in Liverpool to be honest as i really did not enjoy Madrid…that said, i wasnt and havent been hanging around the postcodes he would be…so my opinion is worth bugger all…

the greater point being would i rather live in Liverpool ALL of my professional career, if i was a world class full back with access to any amount of funds to purchase my dream house…the answer is no, probably not.

i think at mid twenties, as ive suggested elsewhere, unless LFC were champions every other year and a massive likelyhood of being champions league winners in the next two years, id probably think about moving on too…

the club will be pulling on his heart strings, thats for sure, but that might not be enough.

I have been to these places in short periods so might not be accurate but I prefer Liverpool. What is gloomy weather to some, to me is the perfect weather, maybe after living in such weather longer, I might change my mind but weather wise I would choose Liverpool anytime over Madrid or most cities in Spain. And as a tourist, I feel safer in Liverpool than in Spain especially the big cities, not that both are super dangerous but I always feel more at ease in Liverpool.

He’s not even a source. He’s a joke.

People only quote him for a laugh.

Read someone here mentioning that he’s one of those guys from RAWK who have way too much time on their hands.

It looks like Madrid are only after him as he’s on a free.If that is the case then that should be warning enough.

It is an effective and successful approach by them overall however. They spend big transfer fees on occasion (Jude, Tchoumeni, Hazard (a mistake signing)), buy top young players at premiums (Vinicius, Militao, Endrick, Guler) and then use the free transfers effectively (Rudiger and Mbappe). I think they are chasing Alphonso Davies too?

The lure is easy to see - they challenge for trophies, have fantastic players all over the pitch, play in a massive stadium, and on a free, theres a bigger signing on fee going straight in the players pocket.

It would be different if he were being chased by a big club that’s not really successful - say Juve of late.

Not quite. If they get him on a free it’s because he has agreed to run down his contract in order to facilitate the move and benefit from a much larger financial package he would have got had there been a fee payable.

It probably helps Real Madrid in terms of cashflow and maybe there are other advantages for them (certainly fewer issues with negotiating). For clubs losing players in this way it means less cash to re invest into the squad…

Aye. I am still not being defeatist about it like so many are, but it is not a coincidence that Real find themselves with an opening at RB at the time the world’s best becomes available. Real still exert influence through their financial power but it is no longer expressed in the Galatico era approach of “one big market distorting signing each summer to show everyone how big our dick is” type expression. They are far more willing to bide their time both in terms of waiting for the right player to be available, and giving their players time to grow into the demands of the side sheltered by the experience of other top pros.

There has been open acknowledgement there for several years now that for as good as Carvajal still is he is no longer capable of being a reliable every day player and they have done nothing about it. Do you think that is because they didnt have the resources, or they were willing to play out the long game and make do with the players they had?

Isn’t Salah currently on higher pay? If so, I can’t imagine us not being able to offer something close to that. Whether we should/would is a different question.
