UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Will never happen, though, as there’s too much apathy.

The entire neoliberal dumbing down agenda has got what it wants: a public completely oblivious to what is actually going on and too lazy/stupid to do anything about it, anyway. Meanwhile, the elite get rich off everybody else’s hard work and dictate government policy.

Yeah, same here

Trouble is, if there’s (Bangladesh) a change in regime/politics, it might usher in a Taliban-escu elements.

Oh…

Pretty sure you’ve nicked that line from Plato.

I wish my memory were that good. Haven’t read Plato since I was at school.

Pretty sure he hasn’t because neo-liberalism postdates Plato by about two millennia.

Which may or may not be true. The concept of dumbing down the electorate to the point where those in charge can fleece all the masses is as old as time itself.

“Children; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. They no longer rise when elders enter the room, they contradict their parents and tyrannize their teachers. Children are now tyrants.”

Socrates.

These are not new problems.

No it is true; neoliberalism is C19 US economic theory. No that isnt correct either, there were no electorate in times ‘as old as time itself’ as a vote was a luxury. Dumbing down the electorate cannot have emerged until after the invention of the printing press, so Id go that far back.

I think what your saying is deception of a population by its leaders is age old; yeah it is, but not as old as putting them to the sword and pillaging the whole village.

Turns out that taking control of your borders only applies in one direction, you can only control one side of it. Imagine that.

You get my point though, there are no new stories.

Random but related question.

Have any major politician (not just PM or President) been convicted recently (last 20 years)???

I have a serious misgiving about the transparency/accountability aspect of the democratic rule.

I just found this, the soundtrack is brilliant … :open_mouth:
