UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Yeah, right. You wrote this: My mistake,Cummings was found not to have broken the rules whereas Sturgeon definitely did and has admitted it.

I know what I read and I know what kind of “logic” you used. To even say that what Sturgeon did was as bad as what Cummings did is ridiculous. To then say that it was worse, since he “was found not have broken the rules”, is bad faith. I don’t for a second think you are that stupid. No one really is.

Seriously, what Cummings did was much, much worse and everyone who wants to, understands that. What Sturgeons did isn’t a big deal, particularly when she apologices for forgetting herself and taking off her mask. Cummings didn’t “forget himself”, he drove 264 miles after having bee around infected people, with symptoms, and refused to apologice for it. It is in another galaxy of bad.

Yeah but she did sack her senior Med advisor for much the same thing. Travel to a second home during lockdown, and she had a mask on the whole time. She’s that ugly.

What do you know?

Dumb question (honestly don’t know) if you are in a restaurant in the UK, do you have to wear a mask?

Or is it a bit like a during a flight. You can take your mask off to eat and drink ?

It just helps me understand the lapse in her judgement.

It kind of goes without saying that you can take your mask off to eat and drink! Although imagining restaurant-goers not doing so is quite amusing.

If you can find a restaurant that’s still open, you are supposed to only remove your mask when sat at your table.

Even getting up to go to the toilet, you need to put it back on.

Enough for me to completely ignore this ‘information’.

Exactly.

It appears that competency is a precious commodity among Tory front-benchers. How do you rate the Labor front-benchers! They are the most (only) viable alternative and do they have enough competent persons among their ranks???

Cannot be any worse.

I’m not sure anyone can safely make that assumption.

The Labour leadership is in a different league to the Tory one. I’m going to assume it will be better. At this point its a fairly safe bet.

Unproven Starmer against Boris’s team

You may well be right.

Starmer has a successful career record behind him. We saw what Johnson was like as Mayor of London, then as Foreign Secretary.

Starmer may not be an ideal PM and lacks charisma, but he strikes me as fairly practical. Equally, the shadow ministers in key posts are fairly well respected.

The only question in my mind is how deep that pool of talent runs.

You don’t need a deep pool of talent to make a Cabinet.
Boris has done it for a year

I would agree that I have considerably more confidence in Starmer as a leader than Johnson but the question was about the respective front benches. Sadly, I don’t think you can assume that the Labour front bench as a whole would be more competent than the Conservative’s. It’s made up exclusively of politicians after all.

She’s already untenable after the first round fo bullying claims, the second should have ended her parliamentary career without any question. But she’s still there, like the undead.

it’s exactly the same as Cummings trip to Barnard Castle, every time Rees-Mogg opens his mouth and Gavin Williams says he’s actually done something.
