I guess that’s my point. It feels like a manufactured problem which has largely arisen through the governments (this one and previous) lazy policies that allowed the extremists within government and beyond to pick at it until it became an open wound.
But then if it wasn’t this then it would probably be something else which seems to be the wy things operate.
I think the best way to describe him is professional.
Like a good lawyer, he looks the part, knows his stuff and is prepared. He somewhat lacks charisma, and is more of a pragmatist, than ideological driven.
The left hate him because he is perceived as a centralist (as if it’s a dirty word). He is mocked as a red Tory. He is blamed for Corbyns demise. My perspective is that is nonsense.
Whilst there is a genuine hate coming from the left, I suspect a lot of the hate on twitter is bots. I have looked up a few and they have all the hallmarks. I don’t believe it’s any coincidence just as his popularity exceeds Johnson, #StarmerOut trends.
They could have made a graphic that looks far worse than this !
That’s the fundamental issue. As roles filled by those they trust rather than ability to do job. This leads to croynesism and nepotism. The normalisation of croynesism leads to corruption. Awarding a £1M contract here, a £100M contract there.
The checks and balances breakdown. Not just peer dissapproval, but much broader. Hence attacks on civil service, media or law. Basically anyone that can hold them to account.
For me the UK is entering dangerous territory. Whilst that may seem hyperbolic, I do fear where they are heading. For me they are the worst UK government in living memory.
