UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

According to many professionals in the road haulage industry, one of whom was interviewed on Today this morning, these visas will not resolve the problem.

They can offset the price increases with the 350 million a week they get from Brexit.

Is there anyone to drive the bus though?

Who said anything about resolving the problem, surely it’s just about seeming to be doing something. There’s nothing like a hypocritical U-turn to do that now is there?

When we have ration papers, will they be the same colour as the new passports?

Bloody well better be - we fought a war so that we can choose our own colour of our own ration papers - none of this EU rainbow alliance multi-colour rubbish. Now if I could just get some petrol I could drive down to the shops and get my ration book stamped. Getting a bit chilly at night isnt it?

I was actually thinking more along the lines of supply and demand.

If you want to attract the foreign drivers back which will now include going through customs checks (at one border as we’re still not doing them here) then you’ll have to pay more for them. That will then filter through everything.

Perhaps we’re overdue that change anyway but having a nice price shock while inflation is being pushed up, and tax hikes is pretty damaging I’d say.

Shall we talk turkeys?? I hope the Brexiteer meat munchers enjoy French turkeys

Should we just apply to become a state of the US? The irony.

p.s. The fuel is a lot cheaper there and we already have a very special relationship with them.

I think the status is closer to Puerto Rico

Is it really?
It’s perhaps a bit cheaper, of course at the pump it’s a lot cheaper that’s a tax issue. Are you implying that if fuel prices were linked with America the taxes would be cut?

But the weather’s not as nice.

Nothing quite like policy that can be described as simply as a 2 x 2 box, and they missed one of the possible boxes.

Be interesting to compare that with the Secret Diary of Boris Johnson, Aged 51 3/4.

First of all, everyone who wants to do this has to apply for a passport, it can take a while and costs € 60, I think. Most of the people here don’t have something like that because the normal ID is sufficient in the EU.
