UK Politics Thread (Part 1)

Ooooh, I feel a wager coming on. I want him clapped in irons and put on a remote island somewhere but there’s a slim chance he’ll bluster even this.

Labour’s and Starmer’s worst nightmare is Rishi facing him at the dispatch box…

Not sure I agree with that. However, that might be just me not liking him. I think he is too keen on branding things, and don’t share his political/economic views which I think could be exploited by the opposition.

Much would also, no doubt, be made of how he’s one of the richest people to have ever served as an MP.

Interesting you think Cameron was a statesman. I thought he came across as a PR frontman put in place to assist the transfer of the countries assets to the private sector.

I also don’t think there is anything likeable about Johnson.

Still no Gray report then

Thankfully, I have no idea who she is, and most of the country wouldn’t have either. Looked her up on Wikipedia and the brief summary of her resignation is about Jeremy Corbyn. Some “socialists” are weirdly obsessed over that one figure rather than actually trying to get socialist policy enacted.

Reading the full statement is no better, lots of vague allusions to how life is so hard as a socialist, and how the “right of the party” is effectively destroying everything. Complaining that the NEC is devoid of ideas and leadership. Surely it’s easier to change that from within, especially if your ideas are so persuasive?

My view on most issues would probably get classified as further to the left than hers, but this smacks of idol worship and ideological purity in her mind rather than any actual work to get a vision through…

Just a note on the issues created by a parallel work-related enquiry and a criminal investigation, there can be concerns about interfering with or prejudicing criminal proceedings.

However, usually the two can be separated on the basis that one considers civil responsibilities and obligations and is judged on the balance of probabilities (sometimes the burden of proof needs to be a sliding scale; the more serious the allegation the greater the burden of proof needed). Criminal allegations need to satisfy the CPS that they can be proven beyond reasonable doubt and/or that there is a public interest in bringing charges.

I was instructed to lead an internal investigation into claims that an employee was raped by a colleague. There was a parallel police investigation and neither impacted on the other. In fact, the police requested a copy of my findings.
