I agree, look at how the British forces surrendered to the Nazis in 1940 the same as all of Western Europe had done in the preceding year. Otherwise, they would have stood completely alone in Western Europe fighting the Nazis until 1942 - good job that did not happen eh?
Look at how they developed radar, the bouncing bomb and cracked the Enigma code.
Look at the 1944 D Day landings which if I remember correctly were organised and launched from France, no Belgium - sorry can’t remember.
Look at who eventually won.
Perhaps with the benefit of hindsight and some revisionism thrown in you could advise just what the British forces in Singapore could have done differently given that they were so useless. By the way were all British forces useless or just the ones in Singapore?
I cannot speak at how useless or great the British forces were in other parts of the world, but they were pretty useless in WW2 over here in Singapore and the Malaya. With a huge numerical advantage over the Japanese, they surrendered Singapore to the Japanese in 8 days. It was the largest British surrender, not sure ever or during that period with Churchill calling it a disaster.
I was born 3 decades after the war so I had no hatred or ill feelings although I think my Grandpa who was in his 20s during the war, the uncle and friends who were taken by the Japanese, never to be seen again, had insights to how the British could not defend what they have taken as theirs.
And there is no need for me to suggest what they could have done differently. That does not change how useless they were here, does that?
You know what - perhaps it would have been better if Britain had just declared neutrality and not gone to the aid of Poland and the rest of Western Europe. History would then show what benign caring and wise rulers the Nazis were.
May I apologise on behalf of all the useless British forces who fought so badly during WW2 and in so doing made the world a much worse place.
If only the Nazis had won - what a better world we would be in right now.
Sorry I cannot comment on this any further - some of my relatives died in that conflict and do not deserve to be criticised in this manner.
Errrr…did you even read my post? You were so eager to defend that you did not see me that I was speaking only about how useless they were in Singapore and Malaya? And only you had relatives and family who died in the war?
A No 10 insider told me Mr Cummings “jumped because otherwise he would be pushed soon”, suggesting that, in the last few days, the prime minister saw that the former Vote Leave team was just “in it for themselves”.
Reading more into the Cummings story, it appears that Carrie Symonds, Allegra Stratton and Munira Mirza were all fairly influential in getting this done.
To be honest I’ve long thought that he has been used as a puppet by the ERG etc. and was more than happy to take the title. But soon realised it involved actually doing something.
With Covid numbers likely to be improving by that stage (hopefully) and Brexit done and revealed they need someone else to pick up the baton and fix the mess, with a new angle needed to be pushed and Boris being the fall guy.
Pretty sure that Labour have started to realise this with Starmer in particular starting to go after Sunak in PMQ’s etc.
