I’m inclined to believe Starmer met Meloni because she’s the PM of one of the biggest economies in Europe and he has staked his future on growth. Lots of nodding and smiling, let’s see what happens with that ‘advice’. I’d wager nothing, and I said above it would be a huge mistake.
I agree completely with you on the Israel issue, but just don’t see any way through for him right now. The US and now two UK governments have painted themselves into a horrible corner on this issue, and the powerbase of pro-Israel forces in many western societies is going to prolong the misery for a while yet. Like @Arminius said in the ME thread, I see no hope anywhere, certianly not in a fledgling UK Labour government that would be snuffed out in an instant were it to touch that particular third rail…
Absolutely. He is meeting with other European leaders as part of a reset in relations following Brexit, it would be odd not to meet with the Italian leader. Any policy he brings in regards to economic growth, Security or immigration has to consider the views and actions of our european neighbours.
Hypocrisy, potentially, although the argument would then be that means-testing means that the benefit would be kept for those who really need it. Although, I’m not convinced it will reach all the people it needs to reach.
Nonetheless, there’s no promise there, which was your original claim.
Yes under this government. You might have noticed they’ve had time to strip pensioners of a winter fuel allowance but not enforce very simple legal ramifications for actions. Still, prisons are full and it’s somebody else’s fault.
To whom are you speaking? If me, it’s strange I know but those who pay people who abuse children need shooting, along with the abusers. Is that complex? Difficult? Tricky to understand? At odds with human dignity? Against human rights? Or just basic fucking common sense?
