It’s pretty detailed having just looked again. ONS do good work to be fair.
About 50% that left the UK were graduates on study visas.

I can. Only the other day it was suggested Net Migration could be a negative next year. So, ignoring the increase for what ever reason, the end result is that Pro Brexit campaigners could potentially use it as a Pro.
The flaw is that we do not know the demographic of people entering/leaving the company. Brexit was built on being able to stop unskilled workers, cherry picking the best and so someone pro remain could argue that.
I am not trying to argue against you. As I said it was an interesting graph.

The jump in British nationals leaving when the new methodology was introduced is interesting. It’s quite possible that a large number of them are actually EU nationals. We left before then, but my wife would have been counted as a British rather than German national on that basis. It would also count dual nationals as British regardless of place of birth or original nationality.
It does show how haphazard population calculations have been in the past. A lot of this is down to there being no formal ID card system.

The distressing thing is that the comments to that video are full of people making comments about our absurd policy of giving PlayStations to illegal immigrants, how mad we are as a country, why don’t we give PlayStations to ‘are own’, how the UK is finished etc. This is all amongst an equal number of comments explaining that it’s fake, and directly referencing the source. It’s impossible to take even a cursory glance at the comments and not click that it’s a scam.
I genuinely think one of the biggest shifts in our politics over the last decade, largely driven by social media, is that it’s no longer a battle between fact and fiction. We’re now at the point where people literally don’t care if they are wrong. It’s completely secondary to how they feel.
I wish everyone was as ready to hold their hands up as you are but it’s absolutely wild out there.

Also, when I indicated that government policy can drive immigration, the report actually lists the policies that have to at least some degree driven the downward change.
