Australia still has a semblance of cultural connection and glue. Unfortunately that’s probably because we’re 15!years behind in the neo liberal mass immigration wave that will likely smash that here too.

This caught my eye just now. Not being from the area I was broadly unaware of the details of the “festival” beyond that there are marches and that there is always controversy…
The side show lately has been immigration and things like mock-ups of mosques or small boats with immigrants being burnt atop of pyres. Of course before there were such heinous villains such as the pope and offensive items such as the Irish flags being burnt…
This is why I hate patriotism and national pride. I spent most of the 90s and 2000s trying to understand why India was such a black hole of no hope until I realised everywhere and everyone is the same and perspective is key.
p.s. apologies if I’ve completely misread the situation but the concept of burning effigies is so, well, third world to be honest

From what I experienced in Scotland, it was never the Orange Lodges themselves that were the problem, but the hangers on that would cause trouble. The lodges themselves actually tried to make an effort to police themselves but that wouldn’t stop some drunken dickheads making a nuisance of themselves.
If they are burning Islamic symbols then it really doesn’t have anything to do with what they are supposedly celebrating.

The orange order marches are designed to provoke. Best thing for it is to completely ignore the prancing peacock pricks. Burning irish flags etc is an effort to escalate - the more they are ignored and the stupider their actions the clearer their behaviour is indefensible cretinism. Ultimately the way forward is to totally ignore them and their stupid marches

Yes, inflation expectations adjusting upwards wirh the renewed crisis. US bonds have spiked as well, now at 4.6%, which will quietly create panic in Washington - the UK at least has months to react before having to renew most debt at this rate. The percentage of US government debt on terms of two years or less has never been higher
