There is very definitely an escalation happening now, really over the past six months. Whatever restraint there is is minimal at best, nothing than a consideration in their war cabinet considerations. But the West Bank is still far from what is being inflicted on Gaza.
I don’t see the UK as having any meaningful influence at all.
Such is the ferocity and the complete disproportion of force now being visited upon civilian neighbourhoods in the West Bank that comparisons are already being drawn to the widespread destruction in Gaza. Knowing that Ben Gvir is now dictating Israeli military operations there and that his stated goal is annexation , would it really be such a stretch to imagine the place being entirely levelled in exactly the same way that Gaza has been. The fact is the longer they can put the ceasefire off then the longer they have to achieve their ultimate goals.
Not that I’ve paid a single second of attention, but for some reason I had it in my mind that Megyn had moderated somewhat after getting the arse from Fox…
She fell out of favour on the right after becoming a focus of Trump’s ire in the 2016 campaign, and then being one of the key players in the take down of Roger Ailes. NBC saw that and did what these mainstream media outlets always do - confused her momentarily putting her self interest above toeing the company line as her being an honest conservative with integrity and stupidly convinced themselves she could be a star at their organization. She was a spectacular failure there. She obviously had to drop the Fox shtick and showed that she didnt really have anything else to offer a non-Fox crowd. NBC ended up paying off the last couple of years of her contract at the cost of about $50m just to get her to go away.
She’s since gone back to those other RW outlets competing with Fox for MAGA eyeballs where the incentives are to ramp up the nonsense to 11.
Not really, particularly when it is such a minor percentage of the whole. But beyond that, Israeli politicians think about the American reaction all the time, and entities like AIPAC spend tens of millions managing that. There just is no analog to that in the UK.
I suspect that, in the next week or so, a lot of publicity will be focused on the report detailing the assassination attempt on Trump, and the failure of the Secret Service and DHS.
It’s strange how little information has come out about that. There are some major questions still unanswered about the shooter; his motives, his ability to get into a position to fire at a presidential candidate, and about the shot; why is there no scar?
This should be a major story, but everyone is acting like it’s just part of the process.
It’s quite ironic seeing Trump and whatshisname ranting about gun rights behind bullet proof glass.
Well, they have had a congressional hearing on it, where the female head of SS took full responsibility for the failings.
As to the shooter. Directly after, there was a dive into his social media, but he did not have a big presence. Was a loner, and much of his writings showed a distaste for politics and politicians in general. Seems the epitome of a lone wolf with mental health issues. So, in the good ole USA that makes you a candidate for a military style rifle.
Surprisingly, it’s been unusually bipartisan for an incident so likely inflame partisan divisions. I’m not expecting the outcome of the preliminary report will be taken in that manner, but we’ll see.
