US Election 2024

So any vote for Trump comes from a Nazi who’s also a racist? Yes or no would be nice.

Fucking unlikely.

I suspect you’ll get flak on this one. Ironic as that’s what we threw at the Nazis.

That is clearly not what he has said.

But I suspect that you know that and are just being antagonistic.

As far as I am concerned, the vast majority of Trump voters are morons. Some are racists/fascists and some are both.

I don’t believe that. Given the massive numbers, there must be a lot of honest people out there, who are neither morons nor necessarily racists or fascists, and who will vote for Trump.

Germany 1933 is a good example of that. A lot of decent people were seduced by what seemed at the time valid arguments for them. History showed that they were utterly wrong to chose fascism and they would have to go through great suffering because of their ill-fated choice, but with hindsight, I wouldn’t call them all morons or fascists / racists. A majority was just swayed by misleading arguments.

I suspect the current situation in the US to be similar.

What about your traditional Republican voter that ends up stuck with him? They probably don’t want a Democrat in the presidency but they either put up with that or the orange buffoon. I suspect that it is similar to many Conservative voters in the UK. They realise that the party is a mess but no one else actually reflects their political views or outlook.

Sorry, I am not buying that. First off, Germany in 1933 was coming of the defeat and devastation of WWI and the Great Depression. It cannot be compared to modern America.

Second, no one can listen to Trump’s arguments and demeanour and come to the conclusion that he doesn’t mean it when he’s saying that he wants to strip citizenship from thousands of Americans or when he’s saying that he’s going to be a dictator. Unlike when Hitler was elected, Trump has a proven track record of idiocy and wreckage to look back on.

Anyone who votes for Trump is fully aware of what he is and what he’s planning to do. Voting him is endorsing him.

There are plenty of Republicans who are going to vote for Harris. The alternative is catastrophic.

People can make whatever argument they want about their justifications and what is in their heart, but there is no longer any plausible deniability over what his campaign represents and what their stated goals are, and there is no separating a vote for him and acceptance of that.

You are not wrong about dissimilar situations between 1933 and now, but I think my point still stands. I’m not sure that everyone understands what it means in full to vote for Trump. We are talking about dozens of millions.
We have a handful of posters in here who will probably vote for him. What do you make of them? Are they all either racists/fascists, or morons?

They may or may not be racists. I have no idea obviously. But perhaps they are willing to accept his racism for policies that are more important to them. It’s just like anything else: you vote for the agenda that matters most to you and ignore/disavow the rest.

@Limiescouse’s point just above is interesting though. At what point can you simply no longer accept his now clearly stated racism?

I think Mark Robinson has finally shown us where their line is. So as long as Trump doesn’t call himself a black Nazi, he should be fine.

According to the forum, yes! If you vote for Trump you’re a nazi, racist, not educated, bigot, etc etc…

Voting for somebody does not mean that you accept, agree with or condone all their opinions I thought that was obvious. If Hitler’s opponent ate cats and supported United, that doesn’t mean that a person who voted against the worst human in history shares the views of the pussy munching Manc. Tricky stuff this.

Seemingly.

Scripta manent. Everyone can decide for themselves what they are.

Hey, I voted for the guy promising to put 20 million people in concentration camps, but dont blame me. I didnt vote for that, I just liked his ideas on not taxing tips.

Yeah, when the stakes are like this, its just not a credible argument.

Trump is planning on putting people in concentration camps?

We’re talking about a candidate who is proposing rounding up millions of people and giving them serial numbers.
Who has made up lies about an innocent vulnerable community to whip up hate for electoral gain.
Who claims that ‘post birth abortions’ are taking place, despite the fact that no such a thing exists.
Who claims that children are being given sex change operations at school.
Who’s economic plans are to further enrich the top 1% while putting up prices for everyone else through tariffs.
Who’s healthcare policy is no more than a ‘concept’ nine years in the making.
Etc etc.

It’s really difficult to understand how anyone in their right mind could be persuaded to vote for a candidate like that.

Everything was fine in 2016-2020, it’ll be the same if he wins again. Stop being such divas. No one is going into concentration camps. I do like the non taxing idea on tips. Maybe I could work the weekends as a bartender downtown and make a lot of money

As fine as when he staged an insurrection after he lost the previous election? Or as when hundreds of thousands perished due to COVID because of his administration’s negligence and indifference?
