US Election 2024

Compassion for the conned, contempt for the conmen.

Recent uk history is very similar. Still going on actually.

Or maybe the bars and restuarants can actually pay their staff a proper wage rather than forcing it onto the public?

I would much prefer that to be honest. That was the nice thing about traveling across the pond, not having to tip and know that the workers (waiters/servers/etc) were paid and taken care of. You know it is bad here when my gas station clerk has a tip jar on the counter…

Thats not what was said.

Personally i suspect that if Trump wins, many of those that voted for him will regret it in time. Plenty will double down on it though.

We have plenty of recent evidence of that behaviour.

Heh…go read through this entire thread, I guarantee you, you will see many of you great humans calling trump voters/supporters those words. It’s just childish. But name call all you want, people in power love when we common folks are fighting each other versus them.

Maybe they will? Maybe they won’t? No one knows…

Most Trump voters want the stock market to go up and the taxes to go down. They also want to stop government programs and policies that help the poor/disabled. This is America! You can do it by yourself, upward mobility is there for those than earn it, etc. etc. The American Dream!!!

There is a deep embedded mindset in the US, especially outside of large cities, that the government needs to butt out of peoples lives, let us have our money (low taxes), and we will take care of ourselves. I think this is much more prevalent in the US than in Europe or elsewhere around the world. And all the people with this core belief instilled in them from a young age can’t bring themselves to vote for a democrat, even when Trump is the alternative and doesn’t really represent the republican party of 20 years ago. I know a lot of people that will vote for Trump for exactly these reasons, even if I think they can’t see the forest for the damn trees.

The marriage of ‘republican’ values to the racist retoric spewed by Trump and Vance about illigals and crime is certainly alarming. And the attacks on Kamala for ‘not being black until she decided she was’ nonsense is just flat out naked racist for all to see. Eating cats and dogs. Trump and Vance are going to go to Springfield Ohio to stir the shit pot even more. It’s performative BS that brings the worst out of people, and hopefully enough people are sick of the constant selling of fear and lies that they lose by a landslide. We will see.

I haven’t called anyone names.

Trump is a fascist and a puppet. Voting for him doesnt make you fascist but you have to ask if people are knowingly voting for that, or how are they completely blind to it.

There are honestly times when I’m convinced that you have no idea about irony or humour. I was very obviously talking about voting against Hitler FFS.

People deserve to be sexy again!

p.s. again?

Good post, I liked this!

Until it’s about women deciding what to do with their own bodies, or teachers reading Anne Frank to their students, or footballers taking the knee for their brothers etc etc

No, you haven’t. But @Limiescouse has called anybody who votes Trump (effectively) a Nazi and a racist. He’s jumped through a few linguistic hoops to get there but the meaning is clear.

Maybe not YOU specifically but many others have. Just scroll up. They ALL are puppets if you want to be honest. They should hall have to wear NASCAR jackets to show who is funding/sponsoring them.

Well…obviously not those things. Just everything else!

No I havent. I have been very clear, but you are pathetically clutching your pearls over me condemning people for supporting an overtly racist campaign that is running on little other than racism.

I think this is treating Trump like far more of an orthodox chamber of commerce Republican candidate than he is. The ideology of his campaign and that of his supporters is ideologically all over the shop on this issue . To the degree they want to reduce these programs, about the only consistency you can find is his base wants the programs that support them, Trumps pledges (often unconvincingly) to protect them. They all just want select groups of people thrown off them (and often thrown out of the country, even if they are American)

I think he’s actually saying that Trump’s overt racism and his fascist tendencies is obviously not a deal breaker for those willing to vote for him for whatever other reasons.

I think most people that vote for him are the old republican base that see no better alternative. I agree with all your points you are making. But there are people I consider to be normal intelligent Americans that are going to vote for him. Some of them are definitely very racist. Some of them are just old school republicans that can’t turn that corner to pick decency. And republicans throw enough shit to muddy the waters about what decency looks like. That’s always been their playbook. You know our candidate isn’t squeaky clean, but look at all this manufactured BS about the other candidate!
