She knows there is a segment of polite society and important high class opinion makers willing to present her as one of the good Trumps. That has left her always being very careful in treading that line to play both sudes. She needs to protect her status as a nepo baby whose husband is lining his pockets as part of a criminal administration selling foreign policy for personal gain but then also has to give those important serious people enough material, mostly through vibes, to allow her to be presented as above all of her fatherâs awfulness (didnt you know Ivanka was really upset at the child separation policy?) without her ever having to say anything critical of it.
So after Jan6th she silently distanced herself from Trump and his politics, but only because she didnt think being close to it was good for her brand. And was allowed to get away with doing it silently because she has enough people in the socialite circles of the media who would spin that story for her. If he wins though those concerns will evaporate and sheâll be back.

That is the one that winds me up to an unusual degree. We had 5 years of ârepeal and replaceâ and they never came up with a replacement plan despite always promising to be â2 weeksâ away from presenting to the public. And then whey they tried to repeal it through the legislation without a replacement plan it failed through sheer incompetence. McCain famously killed the push with his theatrical thumbs down gesture on the Senate floor but people misunderstand that. McCain was a ârepeal and replaceâ republican as well so he didnt do that to save Obamacare. He did it because the ineptitude of the administration in trying to push through the effort made a mockery of Senate procedure and the legislative process, and wanted to make a point of Trumpâs need to work with his legislative partners in a more cooperative way that respects them being a âco equalâ branch. Trump had enough votes in the Senate to achieve his landmark legislation, and he fucked it up through destroying relationships with his would be collaborators.
This time around Trump has again spoken occasionally about having his own health care plan that they are âtwo weeksâ away from sharing, but they have now settled on this lie. And its a lie they know we know is a lie. It is a lie that is completely unsupportable. It is a lie that a press awake at the wheel would use to define the campaign as one completely unmoored from reality in a âwe have always been at war with Eastasiaâ sort of way.

Iâd understand the press doing that if he was already back in power and employing loyalty programs. But he isnt. And he wouldnt get close to it if they covered him with even half the clarity and honesty we should expect.
Last night he was at a rally in PA at the Arnold Palmer airport. He told a story about how everyone at the golf club used to comment how big Arnieâs junk was when they got out of the shower with him. WaPo reported that as Trump telling golf stories I mean WTF are we doing here?
