It’s exactly that. Every time there’s this fucking derby the first thing I worry about is to come through unscathed. When they realise they can’t win they just go in to try and hurt our players, because that at least will appease their fans. You have this shit derby narrative and refs allowing them to do so and today is what happens. So much for the “friendly derby”, vile cunts.
Anyone lucky enough to buy a 50k car brand new would go ballistic if some moron run a key down the paintwork… Imagine what John Henry must be thinking right now when a third rate goalkeeper at best decides to damage a player worth 75m…!!!
If LFC are asking for answers to todays poor decisions by the referee and VAR numpty… I just hope JH decides to take the premier league suits to task for their piss-poor standard of officials they provide in what should be a ‘duty of care’ first and foremost to ALL the players on the pitch…!
maybe the initial scan did show a ACL tear? But then the extent has to be confirmed later? Because ACL tears can be relatively minor to really serious ones, isnt it? Not an expert but I thought not all ACL tears are severe, it could be minor, but even though minor can still mean months of rehab, just not as bad as some ACL like out for a year etc… but whatever it is, we hope for the best but importantly, its the health of the player as a person that is more important.
Didn’t a certain Fergie actually uttered that very word regarding us decades ago???
Out of curiosity then, if you know a player is offside does that then mean you can break his nose and no punishment will be made?
Fathomed as to why Pickford wasn’t given his marching orders for it.
I think the majority of football fans are asking the same question.
No, it was nothing to do with the offside. A penalty can’t be called from an offside call.
But violent conduct/serious foul play can. The lack of a red card had nothing to do with the offside. It was just a scandalous error from those involved.
I think you have to back to Schumacher v Battiston to find a worse foul go unpunished.
After yesterday… looks like Pickford had intentions of being immortalised on youtube eh…
Pickford was reckless and it was truly terrible. Refereeing was a disgrace. That said the club needs to be able to deal with injuries. We’re down to two recognised centre backs.
Matip is injury prone. Gomez hasn’t been his best this year. Fabinho can step in but it’s not ideal when you want him playing in midfield.
The club needs to sign a quality player in January. Dependent on Van Dijk’s prognosis.
Although that’s a crappy challenge also it was before my time and rules of the game in 1982 were very different to now.
I like this guy. He hasn’t got the pace of Virgil or Gomez but he’s a good passer, tactically pretty good, not bad on the ball. I don’t think he’s ever going to be at our level for a first team starter but to see us through to January, at least, he’s worth a go.
Tbc, not saying as a starter but as our new 3rd/4th choice.
I was four at the time of that incident, but I remember seeing it a few years later on a World Cup VHS my dad had. Yesterday feels very similar, although I doubt Pickford is quite the psychopath Schumacher was (there was a notoriety about him beyond that incident). They are both reckless, out of control challenges that went bafflingly unpunished. I just hadn’t seen one as bad as Schumacher’s until yesterday.
Crappy? It’s the worst ever foul made in world football at the highest stage I think. I’m a bit older than Mascot and can distinctly remember everyone being in shock at the time, after seeing this. In comparison to this, Pickford’s foul is terrible, but not half as dangerous or reckless.
That being said, Pickford should have been given a red card for violent play and it’s a scandal that the ref, and even more, VAR ‘missed out’ on this.
Get well soon, Virgil, fingers crossed that it isn’t as bad as feared!
No. Richarlsons red was after the ref had blown for the foul on Mane.
That just illustrates how completely fucked up it all is.
Except the referee. He thought it was fine.
I can’t recall ever seeing a serious long-term cruciate ligament injury and then the athlete walk off in any sport.
I’m not saying it’s not. I just can’t recall seeing any.
You see this a fair amount in American football, and they’re always taken off in carts.
Because those American Football guys are pu***s
I never experienced it, but I heard that a serious ACL tear, it would have been so painful at the point of injury that it would not be possible to stand on the leg that was injured, much less walk away so I was thinking even if it is an ACL tear, it might be a less serious tear? But I have never experienced it before so not sure about that.
Lucas, he even tried to play on iirc.
And to top it all off, Prickford was fist pumping and celebrating throughout the whole match.
I don’t mind a physical team. As long as there is a competent ref, anyone stepping over the line should be dealt with. Oliver failed there big time. Failed in his duty of care. It led later in the game to the atmosphere of Richarlison doing the same.
Again, Richarlison is fully to blame, and Ancelotti may have said “get at them”, but the ref is the one who controls what is permitted and set the tempo.
