It has happened quite a few times in Aussie Rules.
If the worst is true and itâs a bad injury, the thing about big Virg is that he has other parts to his game. Des Walker was never the same after injury. But he was one dimensional.
VVD has the skills to play intelligently. He could adapt his game and play more like Sami Hyppia. In the same way as John Barnes could instantly go from pacy skillful winger, to a central midfield metronome before it was in fashion.
I seem to remember the Bolasie injury where he tried playing, walked down the tunnel and was out for 9 months.
Not worth speculating on at this point, Iâm prepared for the worst to be honest.
Usually when I have a shit day, Iâm confident that I wake up the next day and will feel better. I woke up this morning, and Iâm still pissed.
From a glass half full angle: at least if Virgil has to be out for a while â and the law of averages suggests he was always going to get injured at some point after missing no games in two seasons â it was after we slayed the beast of the maiden Premier League title.
Minute after writing that: still mad.
Against Chelsea. I remember him trying to playing when he did his thigh on his return. Donât recall him trying to play on when he actually did the ACL.
Has any player received retrospective discipline since the introduction of VAR? The requirement that match officials have missed the infraction seems almost impossible now.
A good friend of mine completely did his and never got it surgically replaced. He squats 600 lbs though so has the musculature to keep the joint stable even without the ACL.
This is what is in the FA
The FRA (Football Regulatory Authority) has now given its approval so that The FA will be able to consider retrospective action in the two following situations, in addition to those already within the existing charging policy:
- firstly, for acts of violent conduct that occur secondarily to a challenge for the ball;
- and secondly, in off-the-ball incidents where one or more match official did see the players coming together, but the match officialsâ view was such that none of them had the opportunity to make a decision on an act of misconduct that took place within that coming together.
But not sure how the details on what are the circumstances that they can or cannot do.
When I first saw the incident I thought medial ligaments. From experience, twice, you can walk on it but thereâs no lateral stabilty in the knee. Any pressure or trying to run is a no go. But you can walk.
Donât remember any ever walking off having done their ACL, but Cresswell always springs to mind when knee injuries come up.
Yeah, shocking decisions have always been made, itâs part of football.
But this VAR guy yesterday hadnât the excuse of having a split second only to make a decision. He took a full minute for both the VVD incident, and ManĂ©âs non-existent offside at the end. For the latter, he hasnât even the excuse of having to run across the pitch for ninety minutes or somethingâŠ
I can understand Kloppâs criticism after the game. That was absolute gash, or rather, highly suspicious stuff imo.
I agree Oliver is normal a good referee who had a bad day, it happens. Davis Coote was the problem. Some will say he fucked up, I say he is a fraud hope he never comes near a football pitch again.
Liverpool FC can confirm Virgil van Dijk will undergo surgery on the knee injury he sustained during Saturdayâs 2-2 draw at Everton.
The centre-back damaged knee ligaments following an incident involving Blues goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after six minutes at Goodison Park.
Van Dijk was required to be substituted and further assessment on the injury has revealed an operation will be needed.
No specific timescale is being placed upon his return to action at this stage.
Following surgery, Van Dijk will begin a rehabilitation programme with the clubâs medical team to enable him to reach full fitness as soon as possible
Fuck!!! looks like the season is over for Big Virg
Except nobody has said that.
Just as we feared, we wonât see him again this season. But look on the bright side, Everton are âa breath of fresh airâ.
No surprise, get well again, take your time to heal properly and FFS donât rush back for the EC in summer.
Get well Virgil and come back even better, YNWA.
