More a shift in power than regime change. Not unexpected. It’s what I predicted when those idiots of Israel and US started topping off the visible targets. You end up with less visible ones but more importantly a character that’s a lot less predictable. Someone has taken advantage of the situation and they won’t let go easily.
It’s probably one of those situations where a group is in a place where they can say ‘told you so, now it’s our turn!’
I know she is a journalist. I was wondering about her credentials, whether she has extensive knowledge/involvement about Iran or just skims the surface.
The scary part is how US & Israel is empowering the IRGC. In Bangladesh there hasn’t been any military take-over in last 36 years (since the fall of the Ershad in the late 1990), however, the military has become so entrenched that they can’t be linked let alone be touched. Crime, corruption, they are into everything, but they get away every time.
OPEC does not set a price, though they maintain targets. They set production quotas to try to manage to those targets. Not all producers are inside OPEC, so their control is imperfect. This just weakens it more, but it is important also because UAE is a founding member.
They definitely try…the emergence of the US as the world’s largest producer has significantly weakened their ability to do so., but they can still give it a nudge
Worth adding that I heard people believe US oil production has peaked. No more tier 1 acreage left, and rig counts have been falling since last October. Drill baby drill.
All the big companies are looking for opportunities elsewhere and it ain’t Venezuela.
From what she said she’s just adding regime change to what most are thinking anyway. So my thoughts are an establishment journalist. Trump wants to hear Regime change and she’s said it.
The IRGC have always had a a hand in what goes down in Iran (since the revolution) they are an integral part of the power structure there. A structure that is a lot more horizontal than most and difficult to understand for at least the west.
It could be that at the moment they are keeping the moderate, pragmatists in check. Of course this could lead to more.
As for the journalist she has covered things in Iran before but not much. Her use of the word ‘we’ in certain of her sentences seemed like some sort of royal entitlement to me. She covered the Arab Spring which imo was incredibly badly covered in the west, real establishment journalism. There was no attempt at understanding or predicting in that one at all. Just a load of gumph that western governments wanted to hear, very little understanding of the social-economic forces in play.
It’s easy to make a video from the comfort of your home. She’s obviously very knowledgeable and has a big library however seems like she doesn’t put much thought into what she says and the implications behind it.
WTI now well behind Brent (more normal), but both are up 5% in trading today on the June contract. Bessent first started talking about ‘backwardation’ when it was happening to the May contract.
On that, I’ve heard US reserves have been absolutely battered. That’s starting to impact pump prices with some areas likely to hit $5 a gallon by the weekend.
