Welcome to Liverpool, Andoni Iraola!

Only 2 years, that’s showing less faith than for Slot. Or is it Iraola who wants just 2 years?

Whatever it doesn’t inspire confidence :sad_but_relieved_face:.

It’s Iraola and it’s how he’s always worked and wants to work.

There is a interview further up where he discusses it and why he prefers it.

I see the same experts on managers are back.
It’s a shame really that certain suddenly become so knowledgeable about a manager when they get announced, like with players.
I know absolutely fuck all, all I know I was promised continuity when Slot arrived. Same with Isak and some other players, will be great yet we’re lucky to see more than one decent touch during a game, promises not kept!

Band of politicians .

Not yet confirmed by the official site, but all reliable sources say the same, so it’s surely done.

I for one am very excited with this move. It’s a bold one, which has potential to backfire given his relative inexperience on the biggest stage, but the chances of it being a success are much, much bigger. Of all current PL managers, I’d have wanted no-one but him (Alonso hasn’t yet started his work at Chelsea).

Against the concerns raised by Carra and others, I’d say the following: he has shown to be very intelligent and adaptative. Chances are high that he’ll quickly adapt to the new surroundings and demands. He’s fluent in English and knows the PL inside out by now, that’s a big plus.

This is (in my humble opinion) a great manager in the making, and LFC are right to make that move before he’s snapped up by another big club. As others have said, there is a vibe with him, a determination, a grit. He seems the right fit for us.

Time will tell how it goes for him, but since Klopp was announced, I haven’t been that excited about a new appointment. In comparison, Slot’s announcement had me doubting at the time whether he’d cut it. To be fair with him, he completely dispelled those doubts with his sensational first season and nr. 20, before they came back stronger and stronger, starting with last summer right through this past season.

Now, the first thing to do is to stop all comparisons with Klopp (or Slot, for that matter). Iraola is his own man, and will impose his own ideas. We should give him the breathing space and time to implement them. I’ll be fully behind him for that.

Welcome to LFC, Andoni, all the best for you at your new home ! :handshake:

All this talk about a “3 games a week cycle”. Can we stop it and say what it really is - 2 games a week?

It sounds like a rehash of what the German clubs call a Englische Woche, essentially just midweek games.

It’s sometimes more than a midweek game. We are often asked to go Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday

He wouldn’t have been my first choice. He probably would have been 4th on my list but I’m already enthused because it seems certain we’ll have a clear identity and that will be positive and on the front foot.

But fundamentally, more than ANYTHING, he needs to get his teeth polished. We don’t do poppadom coloured dentures. Tsk.

I am coming, hold the Iraola train. :woman_running: :woman_running:

Welcome to Liverpool FC Adoni Iraola.
I hope you settle down, connect with the fans and the city soon.

Could you please make sure you mentor the youngsters from the Academy and use them when needed.

Also, allow the boys toilet breaks. They are human, not machines.

When you win future trophies for us, (God willing), please can you make sure Robot isn’t in the photo.

Vamos Liverpool!

We need a song for Iraola.

You just want Klopp 2.0.

A mate of mine was at a taxi rank in the town centre a few years back when Klopp and his wife showed up behind him. Apparently, Jürgen beamed at him, and he said it was like full-on Xenons hitting him in the face.

Was this your mate?

Has he been banned? I must have missed that. He had that period when he was channeling his inner Mascot. One of the highlights of the season. Yes I know…

Andoni is the Spanish version of Anthony—so actually, he’s more of a “Tony” than an “Andy.”

One thing that’s just occurred to me.

We are a team in transition. Players leaving, some that haven’t really performed, some getting on, and now a new manager too. That may signal the need for more changes.

Only a 2 year contract though. Now I understand that if things go well, extensions will be signed but darn it, in the space of 1 season we’ve gone from league champions to full rebuild with an almighty hiccup after 8 months. That’s not enough time to get us sorted properly.

I think we had better temper our excitement a little. There’s a shit load to do, and it took Klopp a few years. We’re in that position again admittedly with a stronger team but still.

The great Vonnegut told us “you are who you pretend to be. So be careful what you pretend to be.” Poor almighty has taken this change hard after putting so much into accepting Slotball
