Hereās my story as a supporter of Liverpool FC (a supporter, not a fan):
In 2013, I first came into contact with the āRedsā; at the time, Daniel Agger was playing for this historic Merseyside club. However, at the end of August 2014, shortly before the close of the summer transfer window, the Dane left LFC and returned to his homeland to join BrĆøndby IF. Thatās when my support for Liverpool FC faded. When the āRedsā (who had been managed by JĆ¼rgen Klopp since autumn 2015) faced Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the Europa League in the 2015ā16 season, I was still rooting for BVB.
Then, in late summer or autumn 2016, I had a crazy dream. I live in a social care facility in a residential programme for people with autism (I have Aspergerās syndrome). Iād dreamt that Steven Gerrard was working with us. And there was also a native Englishman working in my residential programme at the time (who didnāt yet have German citizenship). My support for the āRedsā quickly returned. And when Liverpool faced a German club in the Champions League play-offs during the 2017ā18 season ā in this case, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim ā it was clear to me that I had to stick by my friends, the āRedsā. That season, Liverpool FC reached the final, where they lost 1ā3 to Real Madrid.
In the years that followed, my support for Liverpool FC grew stronger. My favourite memory is this: in the 2018ā19 season, when Liverpool won the Champions League, the Merseyside club knocked Bayern Munich out in the round of 16 (0ā0 in the first leg at Anfield and 3ā1 in the second leg in Munich). I was at a contact and information centre at the time ā a drop-in centre for people with and without disabilities ā and felt like I was the only one there supporting Liverpool FC.
My support also stemmed from this reason: as you may know, Iām a fan of Hamburger SV. Ever since I was 16, my heart has been set on the black, white and blues from the metropolis on the River Elbe in northern Germany. And in the 2010s, Hamburger SV experienced an unprecedented sporting decline, which culminated in their first-ever relegation from the Bundesliga in 2018. And throughout all those years leading up to 2018, HSV faced sheer hatred from āopposing fansā. And for this reason, too, I refuse, as a matter of principle, to root for any club in UEFA competitions simply because it is a German club. And among the fans who hated HSV were, of course, fans whose clubs played in the Champions League or the Europa League. Even in the first few years following their relegation from the Bundesliga, there were āopposing fansā who hated HSV. When HSV were promoted back to the Bundesliga in 2025, there were, of course, plenty of āfans of other teamsā who were delighted about it. But unfortunately, not everyone felt that way.
And Iāve always held the same view for many years now: when Liverpool FC play against a Bundesliga club (HSV being the exception, of course), Iām rooting for my āScouser matesā.

We are currently touring across Northern France. My wife took me into a hypermarket near Reims today. Iām rather in sensory overload right now. Basically itās a food shop in a building resembling a Zeppelin hangar, and I have seen more cheese, wine and baked goods than I realised existed.
However, ,ubbly wine, even in the Champagne region, costs considerably more than petrol, so Germany still does have some advantages.

Which supermarket was it?
I donāt eat much cheese but when I do I like a choice and a good one. My local Carrefour used to be ok but standards have dropped considerably. So Iām looking for an alternative option.
Perhaps I should contemplate going to specialised outlets.

Hyper-U. Iām not sure if that is the brand or just the site it was located on. There appeared to be separate businesses located behind the checkouts.

We got home after a couple of days away to find glass all over the bathroom floor, the shower glass shattered, and a big chunk taken out of the toilet.
I immediately thought that vandals had broken in, but there was no sign at all of forced entry to the house anywhere. So, after some googling I found out that it is possible for shower glass to spontaneously shatter.
Seems like thatās what happened. It had enough force to break a toilet bowl, so god knows what it would have done to anyone who was in there.
Really strange and unsettling incident.
