What's happening?

New experiment that will create conflict.

Depending on what the health effects of over-consumption are like, as well as the environmental effects of chicory farming, Iā€™d actually be interested.

If it tastes really similar to coffee, sign me up!

What has coffee done to deserve this?

Nothing I love a good coffee but it does bad things to me sadly.

Admittedly i havenā€™t looked into the production side of it. Health wise it seems ok with some prople having alergic reactions to it.

Taste wise, itā€™s ok. I havenā€™t quite sussed dosage etc. yet but i note that the stronger you make it the more bitter it tastes. Itā€™s not exactly like coffee but not unpleasant either.

You can buy coffee /chicory blends too.
Down side is cost but Iā€™m using less per cup so far so should be ok i think.

I think water consumption is already one of the biggest issues with coffee production not to mention its carbon footprint, so thatā€™s where my interest re production comes from.

Also, can you buy a civet version?

7.0 earthquake in Eureka, which is north of here. Apparently people felt it here but I did not because I have great equanimity.

Goose update.

A few months ago Canada Geese were everywhere in our neighborhood. We have several ponds and so on, and it is a lovely place for them to hang out.

When they are full of hormones they lose their minds, sort of like teenage boys. One of them got hit by a car, but the tough little bugger lived to tell the tale. However, he broke his wing for his troubles.

Mrs ROTW phoned up some local rescue sort of place, but because the goose wasnā€™t on someoneā€™s personal property, they didnā€™t have the resources for someone to come and get it and treat it.

I thought that would be it, and a coyote would end up having a nice meal. But not so fast.

When I take the dog for a walk I go past the pond where the goose has decided to make his home base. He is still going strong. He canā€™t fly, and over the past few months the flock has come back on a few occasions to check on him and to see if he can join them, but alas, he canā€™t fly as his wing is broke.

I havenā€™t seen the flock come back in a while now, as it is winter, and the temperatures are starting to get chilly. Today it is between -3 and -12C, with the wind chill making it feel much colder again.

I expected to see a dead goose today, but he still holds on! So far it is a lovely little triumph against the odds, but I fear he wonā€™t make it through the winter.

Pity you canā€™t catch it to carry it homeā€¦ Put it in neighbours garden, then phone the place again to come and get itā€¦

Hope it survives the winterā€¦ Especially Christmas day :0)

Isnā€™t there any animal rescue centre or shelter?

I thought they were eating the geese.

That goose has occupied my attention. I check on it most days when I walk the dog. Even in subzero temps he is fighting on. The pond is frozen and his food supply - heā€™s been eating grass around the pond - is going to be gone soon. Iā€™m wondering about what food I can take out to drop by his pond, to keep him going. We have a bag of bird seed in the garage (our chipmunk friend has been filling his boots for the winter) but I think I will take some over to the goose.
