Not sure your pal @cynicaloldgit will be too impressed that you’re on a buss
Why? It’s better than flying or driving in a private vehicle.
I don’t travel to impress and it’s not a short journey but several hundred kilometers
It was very impractical to have my car down south due to parking, so the choice was really between plane and bus. Or 4 days by a very expensive ship.
I think @Dane was referencing the spelling…
Meh. @Magnus is allowed spelling mistakes, as English isn’t his first language.
I have these errors in all languages, very much including Norwegian. I don’t mind being policed, but the problem is that I generally tend to know how the words are correctly written, but I don’t spot the spelling errors when I type. Thus, I am not sure how much policing me would really help me improve my spelling. I am sadly probably a lost cause.
Generally though, I make far fewer spelling errors when i write on paper. That is a different process and i use my brain differently then. But typing (particularly on a phone) is an issue. But I think I have mentioned this before.
It’s just one of my several flaws. I am sure, no I know, that other people have different flaws; but perhaps not as vividly visible as mine.
I still adore you. That’s all that matters.
We need to be careful here, before it becomes all:
Because it’s an endangered species and someone here would shoot it with an elephant rifle.
And I still hate you both. That’s all that really matters.
So take that!
Good job that I am not in America.
Sigh.
Endangered species and you just shoot at once.
@Alright_Now_Legend I told you. You are partly responsible for this dreadful slaughter. Don’t just let it run straight into his sights, man !
Hey Magnus have you ever heard of Adrian Mole? You may enjoy - he’s a Norwegian leather Industry expert too.
In my defence, it is buss in Norwegian. I sometimes forget that it’s a single S in English (on top of my general butchering of grammar when I type fast), and my linguistical skills are mostly intuitive and not structural and rules based (I have a pretty good ear for languages and could read Lord of the Rings in English when I was 12 or so).
A poor defence maybe, but it’s all I got !
To be fair isn’t that really just largely fanfiction of Nordic creation myths?
I don’t think that is fair to say. It’s been years now since I was truly into Tolkien, but while he was indeed very much into Norse sagas and Old Norse as a language, the man did indeed create myths and sagas of his own. There is much influence yes, but it’s his. On top of that, he created for instance Elven. The man was a genious really. Maybe not the best story teller, but the meat inside his stories are wonderful and very advanced.
It is also fair to say that old Anglo-Saxon history, myths and sagas played an at least equally large role as the Norse.
Beowulf for instance, is Old English. Norse inspired, yes. But it’s from their Saxon legacy; just as an example
Ah to be fair I intended to say Norse not Nordic. But it was just a joke anyway.
It is true that the Old Norse creation myths are a main inspiration, alongside Christian creation myth. With Tolkien, it is worthwhile not to forget Christianity, I think. It’s a mix of Christianity and Germanic/Norse myths when it comes to inspiration, I think it is fair to say.
But all writers have inspiration from some where and few can manage to create a fully original creation myth that has no influence from Judeo-Christianity, proto-Hinduism, Germanic, South American and etc.
So I view it more as main influence
My preciouss!
