What's happening?

Mikey Edwards will have a detailed file!

Hurhur I don’t watch much football apart from Liverpool matches but yea, Singapore football is a hit and miss over the years so we are lucky to win.

Daughter going to Bonnaroo? A music festival in Tennessee, sort of like Glastonbury, probably smaller. I don’t know anything about it!

Anyway, she’s 21, but as a dad I couldn’t resist giving her the talk. Drive carefully - she has a lead foot and it’s a 5+ hour drive. Stay with your friends. Don’t do anything stupid… that sort of pep talk.

I don’t know if parents ever get over this sort of thing? I love my kids dearly. They are good kids. 21 and 18. But you still worry a bit!

Definitely.

You’re bound to worry, but she’ll have a fantastic time, no doubt, just like we all did back in the day.

They will always be your child. Even (hopefully) when they are 70 you may ā€˜worry’ about them or fuss over them (if you can).

Preparing for the summer hols in the UK and would welcome advice anybody might be able to give regarding maintaining a good internet connection on my French mobile. We don’t have the international roaming plan and have heard that getting a travel e-SIM might be a better / cheaper alternative.

Would anybody have experience of using these ? Cheers!

Same here and no idea I’m afraid.
I’m booked up where there’s WiFi which will be enough for me.
My son’s panicking over TV. With my grandson just wondering what might be on offer. I keep trying to calm him down as there will be plenty of activities to keep the little bugger occupied.
The problem will be when I need a good lie down and my son feels lazy.

Presumably this sort of thing:

My German PAYG SIM already covers the UK so I have never bothered with one.

We’ve always had the same problem but it’s never really bothered me before. However , we are landing in Manchester about midnight this time and need to get into our hotel for the night. Not sure about the availability of taxis at the airport at that hour so I’ve downloaded the uber app but need a good internet connection to make it work. I’m probably worrying for nothing.

There’ll be free Wi-Fi at the airport for confirming your Uber, then next day just go out and buy a pre loaded pre pay sim card.
Alternatively, does your hotel not have an airport collection service?

Cheers for that.

I spoke to the guy at the hotel and he said there was no transport available at that hour.

I have ended up having to fly to Stansted as all other options for me are out of the question due to the inconveniences. It’s getting to the point returning to England to see family is out of the question.
Some of the hassles, Exeter only possible with an escale with an 8 to 27 hour wait in an airport.
Bristol only 2 flights a week and stupid hours for departures or arrivals so no possibility to pick up a car hire.
Gatwick just a little better than Stansted for the drive worst for accommodation if things go wrong 6 in the morning flight home.
With a little one of 4 years it’s just not on. If your not moving it’s hell.
I’ve had my fill of ferries English customs is just so shit and workers on the ferries don’t speak English or French causing barriers and frustration.
Train is extortionate if you can not get a break offer and from the south of France too complicated for me these days.

Anyway that’s my grumbling done for now.

It’s getting really shit here too. We’re in Pau and at one time we could fly direct from Lourdes , Toulouse or Bordeaux. Now we are down to just Bordeaux and with RyanAir pulling all its operations last year , the only (cheap) carrier left is EasyJet , and hence us arriving at a stupid hour.

Air France and KLM both have stop-overs and are far more expensive but that’s what we’ll probably do next time , even though Air France lost a case of ours once !

I’m from North Wales , where is it you’re trying to get to ?

South Devon where my Dad lives.
I’m flying from Marseille with Ryanair so all the flights will be late.
Did you know there’s no long stay parking at BĆ©zier.
Used to drive and take the ferry and drop off to see my Sister in Somerset and wherever my brother was now Cotswolds. Health and frustration with ferries put that to bed. So Sis and Bro are making the trip down to see me, my son, grandson and Dad this time.
At least I know Devon well which means it’s easy to find things to do.

Bon voyage ! :crossed_fingers:

Thanks!
You too.

Have you checked out Newquay (St Mawgan) airport @Flobs
I heard they do flights to and fro France :person_shrugging:

We were drilling in the Bay of Biscay many years ago, flew from Newquay to Aberdeen by helicopter.
Horrendous journey, with fuel stops in Blackpool and Teeside

Came home a bit early today, empty house, kids out and Mrs ROTW will still be 3 hrs at work. Then I remembered the US Open golf was on. Cracked open a beer. Feels like I’m ahead of the game.

Sounds great. Shame about the golf though.
