Where did you get that footage!? I thought my camera wasn’t accessible from the internet

I’ve been looking at a problem this morning with a client who couldn’t access his emails. Turns out that he was using a commercial VPN. We tried it on our company one and it works fine.

It transpires that the commercial VPN vendor is having an unusual amount of traffic from the UK connecting to German servers. The reason given was that the UK is requiring age verification for websites of a more mature nature…

Can’t you guys leave it alone for a minute?

On a more serious note, does this affect online forums such as TAN? Is the age verification only for places that are explicitly for adult content, or do tamer operators have to show that there is a rigorous moderation in place?

I read the news article on that, I love how they instantly thought yeah Germany that’s the best place to pitch my web access from.

Bluesky brought it in as did Grindr, I am not that desperate frankly to seek it from sites but it shows how futile the thing is, apparently VPN’s are on their radar next, good luck with that, this is just going push some to the fringes and we know what that will lead to, its an absolutely dumb law that the Tories set up and Labour adopted.

The fact is this isn’t doing much more than what several internet providers did with their controls. Only slight difference is social media, though Facebook hasn’t done it.

You can still access bluesky without it, its just you can’t see that, same goes for X apparently.

Anyhow neither Bluesky or Grindr was intrusive just age verification software though I doubt I’d want to do that with pornhub or the like, Grindr actually seems to have improved a bit, I assume the bots are from America.

I can see that Bluesky would give access to the adult material, but surely the whole point of Grindr is that it’s local? Isn’t it effectively age verified anyway?

Nope, it’s never really had any protection of that kind at all, which if I am honest is probably long overdue for places like that.

That’s surprising. TBH, I have been married for so long that the whole online dating thing has passed me by, so I have very little idea what it involves, other than hearing phrases such as swipe-right.

I suspect the nearest thing to Grindr was the back of the bog door in the pub I worked in. Technology definitely has improved some things.

Yeah its adapted some of the gay club characteristics on to an app. Including unsavoury stuff like that.

Hopefully this is one of the improvements of that, but we will see. As a 16 year old I used a gay dating app. I’m glad I met my first BF on their before I met with others but it was quite dodgy.

I’m in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

It’s quite lovely.

I spent an Easter on Mull many years ago.
Got to Oban. Slept on a train carriage and got woken up by BR employes. Went to the ‘port’ went across to Tobermory with the ‘postman’.
Went to the pub and got offered a lift to near where I was going (other side if the island near the ferry to Iona). Ended up in another pub at Bunessan where I was introduced to a guy going my way. Drank till midnight with a great bunch of islanders.
He dropped me off at the holiday let where my friends were already installed thumped on the door for 1/2 an hour at which point they let me in.
Next day I realised I had lost my camera. A friend drove me back to Tobermory pub and asked the landlord if he had picked it up. He had and gave it back to me
Great time with wonderful views. With great friends. A couple of Austrians and a Swiss.
Being young can be such an advantage.

Ok, we’re in Ullapool on the way to Stornoway on Sunday. Apparently, a big storm called Cyclone Liz Truss or something is predicted for Monday.
Mad scenes!

I stayed in Ullapool as well many years ago.
Cycled to Inverness and got a train.
My friends there asked me to leave so it was a short stay. Nothing to do with me they were having couple issues.

That’s funny, because on our way home last night we came across a couple fighting in the street.
The woman shouted “I told you not to invite that French weirdo!”
“He’s not French, he’s some kind of West Country yokel, and he’s not a weirdo either, he’s an eccentric surrealist par excellence” replied the man.
So she kicked him in the balls.

Seems like an uncanny coincidence.

Somebody shove me in the direction of the TAN FPL thread. I’ve decided to win this season.

Now in Stornoway - Impossibly romantic sounding town on Lewis, or is it Harris?

Anyway, apparently a big storm is going to hit tomorrow. The papers are all full of dire warnings of death and destruction, but the locals seem completely unperturbed. Not sure who to trust.

You’ll possibly be pleased to know I’ve never been there.

Hurricane force wind and horizontal rain… It must be a Monday. Might give the ferry a miss, though.

Similar. Was planning to travel to Scotland this morning. We’re holding off a couple of hours. Rough out there at the moment.
