I was thinking more Reuben from Ocean’s 11

Surprise me, are we next going to see a pic of @ZinedineBiscan with six packs on a beach wearing CR7 undies?
Six pack of beer maybe!
First time in a while I’ve visited this thread, so sorry for @anon27364116 and @Kopstar for what you’re both going through, and hope you both receive the best news that’s possible in your respective circumstances.
It’s not exactly a new revelation to me, but it still amazes me how little corelation there seems to be between level of medical expertise/“rank” and level of ability to communicate that expertise. Or basic skills in human interaction.
That was my way of saying I feel a real urge to punch that one doctor at this point. But yeah, I know that’s a really bad idea.
Think it’s common across many fields of human endeavour…
Bit surprising though that the people around him haven’t made a stronger effort to emphasise his need to improve…
My experience of the German medical system has been that any form of communication with patients and families is seen as an unnecessary annoyance.
Absolutely, so I expect that. Doesn’t need to be borderline sadistic though, I’d rather not talk instead.
I guess its that some doctors or medical personnel has become numb that they explain everything as a matter of fact with disregards to human emotions…when I lost my Father within hours in a surgery, the doctor and the hospital just said sorry and then proceeded to explain all the blah blah blah of all the theories and procedures and they too are sad that the surgery turn out badly…I told them yeah you are sorry, but tonight you get to go home to your family and have dinner with them but we fucking lost our Father for the rest of our lives so you can shut up about what you have done and done your best whatever…I personally have not come across many doctors here in Singapore who are compassionate in how they deal with patients and their family…its all about protocol and doing what is right in the doctors handbook.
On the flip side, try dealing with the emotional stresses of the job every single day?
It is stressful, one of the most stressful ever probably. But that human compassion and those doctors who display that sets them apart from good doctors as great ones. I remember my personal doctor I seen for a long time now, telling me about the hippocratic oath that as doctors, they need to remember that they are not curing a cancerous growth or sickness, they are curing a human being with feelings and family and loved ones.
Just to be clear, I don’t expect them to hold my hand or to be compassionate or to explain everything in detail, I’m totally fine with them not having time and having better, more important things to do. I’m not new to intensive care situations and appreciate what they do, try to be overly polite and patient with all the people working there. It’s always a bit frustrating experience, but no real problem so far, ever. But this dude…definitely testing my limits…
Stay strong!
A number of years ago my dad almost died while in hospital(their fault imo). When we where trying to find out what had happened the doctors where very direct and matter of fact in what they told us.
A couple of years ago my mam died, after an operation, while in hospital. The male nurse who had tried to save her cried while telling us what had happened.
I think some people find it easier to distance themselves from emotion when dealing with these very emotional events.
Not coming up to a husband to make stupid jokes about having to remove parts of his wife’s skull because of swelling in the brain in an overall life threatening situation - not sure if stuff like that is asking too much.
And rant over. I try to stay collected in the real world, so I figured I’ll abuse this threat.
That’s shocking. As far as i’m concerned that has to be reported at some point in time and the individual reprimanded.I thought you meant they just came across as business like rather than with feeling. That’s not something you need to be subject to.
Abuse it all you want, mate, I’m sure I’m speaking for everyone on this board that we are all rooting for her, for both of you actually.
Rant to us and abuse us all you like Matey. We’ll know it’s not personal and you’re just venting. Save your compassionate energy for Mrs Cologne.
That operation is taking place as we speak, apparently they’ll remove about a hand sized part of her skull . They had called me and told me to come in early today outside the usual visiting hours and that a doctor would talk to me. She informed about what was going to happen, took about 3 minutes, I was already aware that this might a possibility so I knew what was happening. Then on my way out said doctor stops me, apparently mainly to crack jokes about it. I mean I get it, some doctors have a pretty dark sense of humour amongst each other, but fucking hell…
