Silly thought maybe but How about Tammy Abraham?
I like him and think there’s loads of potential but doubt Chelsea will sell to us.
Salah, firmino, Jota, Mane, Elliot and Andre Silva
I signed Daka for us on my Liverpool FM save. Scored 50 goals in 2 seasons. Reckon we go for him due to that.
Takumi is too same same for my liking, i’d prefer a player who offers something completely different.
A bigger more physically/aerially dominant player would be on my shopping list.
Andy Carroll is out of contract this summer.
Bring him back, together with Suarez. It’ll be like January 2011 revisited.
You will need Downing as well.
A taller or more physically stronger player is okay by default (doesn’t mean much), but I’d be very interested in his mobility, what he does off the ball and what’s his technique/finishing like. Doesn’t have to be another pressing monster, but any new player up top who will be likely to join Jota as maybe the future starter, absolutely needs to have some bottom line discipline off the ball.
Probably why my next wish up top would be a player who can go in behind and has some good finishing skills. I think we already have enough players with good combination and ‘towards’ the ball skills. Players also who can do a bit of both (Mane and Jota). Salah is our best in behind goalscorer, but I don’t see him moving to #9 (nor deeper as a right winger in a 4-2-3-1), he stays where he is.
In backup positions, Shaqiri, Minamino, Elliott. All players whose game is to mainly come towards the ball, turn and combine. I’m not counting Origi as he will surely leave, but unfortunately he struggles to put all the few tools he has in him into something clear and consistent. It took Klopp two weeks in his job to tell in a post-match press that Origi needs to attack more in behind, rather than be attracted towards the ball. I don’t think he ever did that well enough for more than a few games in a row, going back to 2016 maybe.
With the chances we’re creating, I think there’s room for a player other than Salah who can attack in behind and get more goals, especially in games when we have to break blocks.
Not always easy to find though, someone with pace (or at least mobility) who scores goals.
We’ll see in coming weeks/months what players are properly linked so we can find out the type of player we want. Or maybe there’s a Jotaesque surprise out of nowhere.
It’s just not that simplistict and I wish you wouldn’t make it out to be…
For example… who else did you sign?what coach settings did you have? Who did you sell?
I’m with you on that.
Intresting seeing these stats all together, what a force we were going forward in 2017/18! But that is back when we were a pure counter attack team, probably some of the most exciting football I have ever watched but we couldn’t control games.
Is it just the change in style that has reached those numbers or is it a drop off in the performance of the individuals? Are Mane and Bobby really past their best now? We’ve certainly go a lot out of them the past few seasons.
I think investment is needed in the foreword line, not so much to replace these guys now, but to be ready for the future and also to be able to rotate more effectively. It’s not an overhaul its just incremental change. Dig out another gem like Jota and I’ll be happy. Of course if Mbappe wants to sign up and take his place pushing the train, he is more than welcome. But it isn’t make or break for us.
Generally I’d be weary of big stars coming in and damaging the team dynamic, but for Mbappe I’ll make an acceptation. I’m not so convinced about Halaand yet, he’s done nothing but have a good season for Dortmund.
Mbappe has a £500k per week net offer from PSG on the table. That’s more than double Mo’s wages. That’s simply not a target for us, first of all financially, but not only financially. We are big and can make some exceptions (Thiago and Mbappe are simply not in the same conversation though). But he’s always been destined for the Reals of this world.
Wouldn’t he accept the Anfield and Klopp bonus! That’s £200k per week. .
We would, on £0 per week.
People often make this mistake. If he’s leaving PSG it’s because PSG don’t offer what he wants, you would assume in standard of the league, standing of the club and respect. Hence why clubs he’s linked to are all highly respected, historically big clubs with high profiles in top leagues. If it was just money he’d stay there. There actually isn’t much money difference between what he currently earns and Salah currently earns and Salah is probably in line for a small increase to extend his deal. I don’t think a player would take a paycut to come here (although it has happened under Klopp) but Mbappe could be on the same salary here as he is at PSG, more when endorsement deals inevitably increase moving from France to the Prem. Then there’s the added motivation of Nike maybe being able to sign a bigger deal with him making him the focal point of their campaigns and our Nike campaign. That could make him a lot more money than they currently pay him and a lot more exposure.
Why don’t these kind of playes end up at Liverpool much more often than they do?
When’s the last time we bought one of the world’s very best players?
When were we last in a position of legitimately being one of the top teams in the world? The 80s? We signed big for British Football back then. Different world now.
Edit; I’d also add that Alisson fit the same category, more than a third increase on the record for a GK. Pretty much considered one of the top 5 in the world, still young and only one likely to be available on the market. Beat Real and Chelsea to him the two big clubs looking for keepers that year.
Can you name a few, I meant the world overall, not only British football? I’m too young for that period, but always wondered how often did we even buy one of the world’s very players. I’d say pretty rarely, even when we were top and winning things. And I don’t think we necessarily need those to be able to compete and win (though win how much and how often, that is the real question now).
Alisson and Mbappe is nowhere near the same type of deal. We can’t judge that on past records for a goalkeeper and what he cost.
There isn’t anyone that we have signed outside of Alison perhaps. The nearest is probably Morientes.
In past twenty years, I’d say it’s only Alcantara. I’m not sure if you had players of his type in mind, they are never rated anywhere near any kind of attacker but for me, he was a world class player prior to his move to Liverpool. This club almost never makes this kind of transfer, which is fine by me, as long as world’s Salahs, Manes, Van Dijks and Alissons end up here.
