Which CM do you want?

If we play close to the same number of games next season, we’ll need another midfielder.
We looked absolutely knackered there by the last couple of games.

I would love to have a workhorse type midfielder. Wijnaldum left, Milner is finally getting old, and Henderson isn’t getting any younger either.

Yes, I think Tchouameni seemed like a great fit for that description. Physicality, but with quality on the ball as well. From the few games I’ve seen, he looks like he could have been particularly valuable in transition.

I’ve seen two others linked as alternatives to Tchouameni. Sangare was one, can’t remember the other at the moment.

Lol, yes, a lot has happened since January when I posted.

Tchouameni went to Madrid. Bellingham is still at Dortmund, and I’d still love it if we could sign him.

There were reports in Jan that Firmino was of interest to Barcelona. I love Bobby but if there was any mileage in that, then given Barcelona’s lack of money, maybe Bobby plus cash for Frenkie might have been feasible?

Frenkie is a good player, but the wages and fee would probably be too high, so we would be better off leaving that one to Man Utd.

Other midfielders? There are loads, and I only know a small fraction of the options. Sangare has started to come to the fore. Nunez in Portugal is highly rated, so is Vitinha. Vieira is too. It’s hard to say what way we will go.

Top preference is Bellingham, as he looks like he has the lot.

Arguably with signing Darwin we might switch to 4-2-3-1 and at that point it might be decided we have enough midfielders for the 2, so it can wait until next summer.

It will be fascinating to see how it all pans out.

all good points to be fair… i think we will sign a midfield player or two from Portuguese league as we have focused a huge amount of our scouting resources on that league recently (according to Reddy). so I would not be surprised if Ward was in lisbon for more than jus Darwin Nunez.

There is that kid from Porto who we’ve been linked with. Allegedly played against us in one of our games, but cannot remember anyting about him. But then I didnt recall Diaz either.

There were those weird reports of us getting a first refusal agreement on Vitinha a couple months back. Not even really sure what that meant to be honest but certainly suggested a strong interest.

Seems Ward like shopping over there in Portugal and noticed he started on the right of a midfield three for them. Apparently we have a pretty good relationship with Porto too.

Anyone seen anything of him?

No, just some youtube scouting, to see what type of player he is. I got some Bernardo Silva vibes from him. That’s all I have.

Think it was actually Fabio Vieira, AM at Porto, 21 years old.

Not sure our roster could deal with two young Fabio’s.

I’ve seen us linked with both.

Think Vieira’s the one we have first refusal on.

Ahh yeah, you’re absolutely right. Although in checking that I’ve now just read that the thing that was reported we’d agreed in terms of Vieira wasn’t actually true anyway apparently.

Very much an area of the world it seems Ward is most accustom to so wouldn’t surprise me to see us back shopping there again if a CM is an area we want to improve.

Bissouma? Weren’t there question marks with him? There’s this Southampton lad who seems like he covered every blade of grass plus had a thunderous shot as well, can’t remember his name

There were. It all went quite after the rumours. It’s well known that Klopp places a significant emphasis on the character of the players.

What about a Nunez and a Nunes?

Some very lose chatter on Twitter about Matheus Nunes. Been linked with City, United and obviously Wolves as every Portuguese player is.

Paul Joyce seems to be dampening down expectations of us signing a midfielder this summer.

“Liverpool remain interested in Calvin Ramsay and have bid £4m plus add-ons. The Scottish club want bonuses which would reach nearer £10m. It is likely that a midfielder will be targeted next summer.

Maybe we are going a bit more 4-2-3-1 and so won’t need as many out and out CM options or we’re hoping those we have will carry us through with Jones, Elliott and Morton picking up a few more games each in the midfield three.

Wonder who we could be keeping our powder dry for…
