Who do you wish to sell

Would rather Sepp came back as emergency (5th choice) cover than Nat.

Younger, quicker, better on the ball, potential to cover right back. Seems to be an obvious move to me.

Neco should probably go. He’s developing well but in a big game I’d trust Gomez over Williams every time, and I also get the feeling he’s happier playing in a less pressurised environment than Liverpool.

Neco not happy being a back up, he wants regular football so he will be sold at some point.

By the time he’s 35, he’ll be slower than me!

That sounds realistic.

Don’t think there will be so many loans out (depends from case to case with young players), but perhaps we can talk about raising around £50m or a bit more through sales.

Could be more of course if someone else leaves, like Keita, or one of our more important forwards.

I guess when the season ends in late May and then in June, we’ll get a lot more news on what’s our general plan this summer.

Why on earth would Naby leave? He’s in great form and paying back the patience we’ve shown him.

Still not convinced that he’ll stay or get a new contract here. In that case, we might at least look if there are some offers on table. I’m not saying do it or don’t do it, just that I don’t think the situation is totally changed now and he’s guaranteed a new contract, etc.

Don’t think we’ll see any news on contracts until the season is done and conclusion is reached on the Salah situation. If he stays, that then sets a new high bar and we may well find the demands of the likes of Mane, Firmino and Keita take a step up on what we’re anticipating. In that case, we may be inclined to test the market for a couple of those guys in the summer.

If Salah looks like he’s going to wind his contract down or even move in the summer then we’ll probably have some more wiggle room to renew some of the other guys if we want. Add in the likes of Milner, Ox, Neco, Origi, Taki and Adrian going and that’s about another £450k a week off the wage bill for a negligible impact on the squad.

The one at the moment that is interesting is Firmino. He’s a top five earner but some way from matching the contributions of those in his pay bracket and with a contract expiring next summer, it’ll be interesting to see what we do with him. Doubt for a second he gets sold this summer but would you renew his contract at nearly £200k a week?

There are definite departures. Neco Williams. Nat Phillips. James Milner. Divock Origi. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Adrian. Karius.

There are departures that seem possible, but aren’t nailed on. Joe Gomez. Takumi Minamino.

Then there are departures that could happen, but would be unlikely. Any of the front three. Kelleher. Curtis Jones. I’d put Keita in this bracket.

I just don’t see Naby leaving unless we have a top class replacement lined up.
He’s just established himself in our first team and is arguably ahead of our captain now. Klopp clearly rates him and is unlikely to sanction a move.
As long as he stays fit, what’s not to like?

He could work on his shooting though.

I knew my post in this almost dead thread would start some discussion and to be clear I have always been in the ‘Nat is overrated camp’

But as fourth choice he might be ok and save us some money. How often did we have to use Joe Gomez at CB this season?

Would love to see Joe stay. I am sure after next preseason he’ll be back at his physical best.

I don’t see it.

There’s the economic factor and then there’s also quality (and versatility, Gomez being able to play RB and LCB, par example Matip never played LCB for us), even more so.

Nat is also 25 now and it’s about time he goes somewhere, settles under a long term contract and plays regular football.

I think if you asked Klopp now, I’m pretty sure he’s totally fine to go into next season with vDijk (31 this summer), Matip (31 this summer), Konate (23 next month) and Gomez (25 next month).

I think something happens only if Gomez really pushes it and there’s a financially attractive enough proposition or a big injury happens. But until we see it, I think we’re not touching anything here.

Phillips and Davies most probably sold (hopefully we can sell the latter and it’s not another loan before a sale), Rhys Williams and vdBerg probably on new loans.

It’s nothing to do with Joe,it’s Nat being completely unfit to play our system and high line now. Great lad , always appreciate what he did for us last season but if Joe goes Sepp comers back and takes the 4th cb slot he has decent pace and is a beast in the air to match it. If not Sepp it would have to be someone stylistically able to fit in and that’s just not Nat.

I think these two are related. Much as I suspect part of the reason we haven’t seen Oxlade-Chamberlain much is also to avoid overstretching him, and for him to ease into a different game from what he was used to pre-injury. It’s worked relatively well for Keïta so far…

With the possible departures of Adrian, Karius, Neco, Nat, Davies, Ox, Milner, and Origi; by how much will our wage bill be reduced? I Think other than Ox and Milner, others are on pretty modest wages. Still, all combined it should be some considerable reduction.

It is a mystery to me why the Ox himself seems to accept his days at LFC are numbered… if his body language is anything to go by…
He has had quite a few chances to impress this season but the guy has struggled for form and confidence and that has hindered him in the games he has played… Would be a pity if the guy does go though if there is still an awesome player within him…

I’d love to keep Joe Gomez and Neco Williams but Klopp has always stated if a player wants to leave then he won’t stand in their way. We have been linked with Gleison Bremer again recently and the young RB from Scotland so I could see both leaving unfortunately.

With Klopp extending it emphasises the focus on long-term squad building. That obviously means a focus on youth and succession planning. Encouraging, therefore, to see the links to Ramsay, Tchoumeini, and Bellingham to add to Carvalho.

It equally means moving players out to free up space for these players to grow. Milner is an obvious one. Then Origi will be off, most likely. AOC is another obvious candidate.

Then I feel Minamino would be next to go, Neco as well. Gomez is a difficult one. He’s not moving to a better club (obviously) nor would he get better terms elsewhere, although he’d clearly be more likely to play. But that might not be in his best interests frankly. His knees are fucked. Playing less regularly is probably the best thing for him right now and maybe then in a couple of years time, with Matip aging, he’d be physically better conditioned to rotate more regularly with VvD and Konate.

I know the club would like him to stay, I just hope Gomez ignores those telling him he should be playing more regularly and that he needs to move as I think that would be a mistake.

Hi Joe,
Obviously you have nothing better to do than check TAN and you probably follow Kopster’s posts religiously. I hope you read his most recent one, because he talks a lot of sense (for once).
Please stay at LFC, we all think you’re great, even if your heading ability is somewhat limited. You’re more like a Hughes or Moore imho.
I wonder if you have considered a new direction in the area of facial hair?

P. S Hi Joe,

And if you’re confused about the letter above, it’s an Aussie with a German name. Yes, we also get confused but don’t let that stop you getting a shave. Oh, and you’re great. As you were.
