Who do you wish to sell

It drives me crazy, if you are afraid of the ball, go and play golf.

Heā€™s homegrownā€¦

Yes, that falls in the category of what he brings to the table. Itā€™s not the only thing of course.

And again, that doesnā€™t mean he should spend 10 years here.

We wonā€™t die without his homegrown status. There are wonderful players out there, even lower if we want, like we found Joe Gomez for a few bobs at Charlton.

He was a good deal, he had bad luck with injuries, some excellent periods, now itā€™s coming to a period when the performances donā€™t merit much more trust and time.

From what I last heard ,our homegrown quota is kinda tightā€¦

Iā€™m fine with that, but I think there is a tendency to get rid of squad players far too quickly. Itā€™s like weā€™re obsessed with having a big squad, but we want to fuck off anyone not in the first eleven.

Gomez falls into a category with Curtis Jones, as someone who constantly appears on fans bin lists, but are young, versatile and British - so weā€™d really be bonkers to push them out. There is a reason we gave Gomez a new contract.

Alex Ferguson always had a few lads like this knocking about. Iā€™m sure Utd fans always wanted to sell people like Wes Brown or John Oā€™Shea, but Ferguson knew that as you get deep into a squad versatility is the most important thing.

I already feel like our squad has far too many lads down the pecking order who can only play one position. Like Tsimikas or Matip for example. Firmino probably falls into this category as well.

Iā€™m careful with those shouts, I donā€™t consider myself as someone who asks for half the squad to be sold when we have a bad season or bad run of results.

But there must be standards also and what else should a football club do but improve itā€™s pieces with time, bit by bit. More important ones and less important ones, players who only play one position or players who can do a job in 2-3.

Gomezā€™s issues is not yesterdayā€™s news. Yes, age is still on his side, but time has come for some of these players to see if we can attract some offers and move onto something else.

Wes Brown was quality more often than not for United and for a larger period of time, thatā€™s not comparable I donā€™t think.

New contracts to the likes of Gomez and Jones is more to protect their market value rather than great merit for what they ā€œshowedā€ in recent times.

For me, itā€™s not such madness if we sell one or two of those. Itā€™s called selection and decision making time at a club that is or wants to return to compete and win things.

Of course, Jones might get more patience and trust than Gomez. Iā€™m also saying that one of Gomez or Matip needs to be moved on this summer. And itā€™s also not totally in our control who leaves, it depends also on the market.

But not everyone will be in the position to get 5+ years at Liverpool. We canā€™t give the same amount of time by default to Gomez, Bajcetic, Jones, Elliott, Carvalho and who else. We need to look at each case separately.

Did Ibe deserve more time at Liverpool? No, he didnā€™t. Klopp saw in his first season here that his quality at the time nor his talent/ceiling is not of the level required for us, regardless that he was a young player and the argument couldā€™ve been made ā€œheā€™s young, exciting and English, give him timeā€.

Itā€™s not all black and white of course, we will have situations where players move on and succeed somewhere else. Itā€™s not catastrophic, we are one of the worldā€™s biggest/richest clubs, tons of players will come through Liverpool at some way or another and not remain here very long.

After the game, since itā€™s already 6am, I went back to sleep and had a dream that we lost 2-10. When I woke up, I saw it was still 2-5. I immediately felt better. And then I also saw there is no relevance to this thread and thst I might have posted in the wrong one.

Iā€™ve been one of Joeā€™s biggest supporters over the years but heā€™s pretty much reached the point where defence of him is doing alot of mental gymnastics and the line above is one his biggest faults alongside his poor positional play and generally awful game. The blocking aspect is something that goes overlooked in the scheme of things as its an unknown variable but its something that he can do better, loads better. Heā€™s been caught out in the Prem turning his back trying to block and making average players look like Ronaldinho and since weā€™re going goal by goal letā€™s look at goals one and four; great finish from Vinicius on the first but Gomez attempts to block it by turning his back and sticking his leg out and for the second he does the same thing. Heā€™s losing all awareness of what could happen by doing so and secondly heā€™s losing any chance of being able to be in control of what could happen as he has no idea where the ball is or where the ball could bounce if he actually made contact. He could have attempted to make the challenge/block with his left foot thus keeping his eye on the ball making it a higher chance that he could get something on it and for the secondā€¦ I mean come on, the shot was so scuffed that if heā€™d stayed frontal heā€™d have been able to boot it away quite comfortably. Itā€™s just ridiculously poor defending and Iā€™m not quite sure why anyone would want to defend it.

Then in general his body language and his game was poor. He looked rattled and out of it. If you watch his reactions after the goals you see a player whoā€™s head has gone. He was awful Iā€™m afraid and as much as I liked him and the idea of what he could, and probably should have, grown into its palpably clear he is a shell of the player who showed such promise and his versatility shouldnā€™t overshadow that fact.

Real Madrid game just reiterates my belief that Gomez and Fabinho should go. Itā€™s not that our other formerly firing big guns are beyond reproach, itā€™s that these two are probably easier to sell and replace. Their replacements should be of quality that makes the likes of Van Dijk and Trent look over their shoulders, though, both could find themselves benched if we hit gold with new signings.

Have to be some player for Trent to be looking over his shoulder. Another in the mold of Konate would have VVD in danger of being benched on current form.

Agree with all of them except for Curtis.

Trent has to be looking over his shoulder as the defensive side of his game is lacking especially how we set up. There are times when the winger tears him to pieces and I still feel that our full backs, and how we play them, are more suited to us playing a back 3 with wingbacks
