I think there was an instance this summer of a parent club (Real?) exercising their cheap buyback clause for a Como player, only to then sell him back to Como for a much bigger fee.

It happens a good amount when buy back clauses exist and with immediate loans but its pretty rare outside of those cases. It is really rare outside of that. Oddly CIty are involved in 2 cases that I can recall. The Hamman one has already been mentioned - free transfer to Bolton who subsequently got a fee from City to sign him without him ever having played a game for them. They also did the same with Dimichelis signing him from Atletico a month after he signed for them on a free after not having played a game for SImeone
Transfer regulations have become tighter since then though so Im not sure it is even legal anymore.

Yeah although that was a contested signing with Chelsea and United having dealt with different parties to get their version of the deal done
Happened with that former Southampton youngster now with Everton Tyler Dibling.
Signed for Chelsea for a few months or weeks and then sold back for the same fee as bought due to him not settling in.

So curious who we are interested in. Seeing barely any rumours and whilst everyone has an opinion on how Iraola likes to play and his Bournemouth team, who knows what types of players he will go for at a team with our budget and existing players like Wirtz and Isak,
I still really think we have to be looking at Adam Wharton. The guy´s passing through the lines would be so useful for getting Wirtz on the ball between their midfield and defence, and his long passing is brilliant - would really work with Isak´s movement in my view.
I can´t think of many alternatives in Europe (or the World) that can pass in the way he can and aren´t at big clubs. Hell, not even that many at big clubs. I know people like Scott because he runs with the ball a bit but for me zipping it forward quickly like Wharton is so much more valuable. The interesting point with Wharton is what type of player you pair him with. Could be argued you do need some dynamism still.
Whartons passing is very reminiscent of Trent, I wonder if he can play RB?!

I like having the CM doing what Trent did. I think it lends itself much better to a better flow of football from your team than relying on your RB.
I would take Trent back, but what sort of fee would they want? On the principle of it, I would not be too interested in paying a large fee. But if there’s value there, I would do it.
Mind you, there is a sense in which you don’t go back. Iraola has new stories to write, so I’m chilled if Trent is a non-starter.
