Geertruida can’t hold Joe’s jock strap, that is when Joe is fit. I’ve watched him play for club and country probably 20-30 times over the past few years, and every time come away thinking, “Man that guy is SHIT!”
That’s the problem though - you can’t watch Joe Gomez play 20-30 times over the past few years due to the frequent injuries so even a slightly lower quality alternative who is actually available when needed might be more useful.
Real shame but the club just can’t rely on a player with that kind of injury history.
So who could be an option for CB/RB?
Finn Jeltsch at Stuttgart
Karim Coulibaly at Weder Bremen
Castello Lukeba at Leipzig
Giorgio Scalvini at Atalanta
Couple of older options:
Fikayo Tomori at Milan
Yann Bisseck at Inter
True that, but Geertruida is scraping the barrel, IMO.
Not true. Not the player I saw at Feyonoord, or Leipzig. Even the fɛw games at Sunderland
Well, we all have opinions, just like we all have orifices.
You expect opinions to be, at a minimum based on objective facts
Fact is, I have watched him many times. I would guess, far more than you, though I don’t know that as a fact.
I too have watched him, going back to his Eridevisie championship season with Feyenoord.
Scrapping the bottom of the barrel is not an objective description of the player.
I mean you could discuss the serious part of my post ![]()

I’m starting to think the Barcola thing will be too difficult and too expensive and if we’re not convinced on any of the other higher profile options out there (Rayan or Minteh for example) then we’re going to have to take more of a punt on someone we can tolerate risking a lower fee for.
Akilouche seems to be another that’s going to be complicated by the involvement of PSG. However it’s odd that they seem to want him and he apparently wants to go there but absolutely nothing has progressed to make that happen.
Maybe we need to look at William Gomez, Francisco Conceição, Matías Soulé, Anis Hadj Moussa or Allan at Palmeires. These are just names plucked from the internet of left footed, right wingers in our typical age range. But, we can’t get stuck in the “there’s no value at the position” or “it’s this one or no one” train of thought and we can’t play silly buggers late into August. We have to make our move and have to do it sooner rather than later.
It seems the Akliouche interest may be to force PSGs hand on Barcola.
Although Newcastle thought they were doing that with us on Ekitike and Isaak and we went ahead and bought both of them. But if Itaola likes playing with 2 up top suddenly that makes a lot more sense too.
Wouldn’t mind Tomori. He counts as home grown and won’t necessarily stop the development of Leoni and Jacques
Need to buy a CB and a RB (unless Iraola actually makes Jones his permanent RB).
Cannot rely on kids for CBs. You cannot win anything with junior CBs having to start.
Pau Cubarsí would like a word
Is that you Alan, can’t win anything with kids?
Dean Huijsen says hi as well.
Who is kinda out of depth at Real last season, you know.
That is a pretty reasonable shoult if we’re only interested in a stop gap option of someone who can play immediately if needed but would expected to be surpassed in the next year or two by the younger players. Newcastle are supposedly in advanced negotiations with Milan and its looking like an increadily affordable deal
I feel they have done well generally on the buying side of their transfers over the last few years, although I don’t know how much they are stumping up in wages, they seem to be good players at reasonable prices.
