My point exactly. The best wide players in the modern game are the ones that combine technical skills with acceleration over short distances…
As @koptician noted, its more about acceleration than simply raw speed.
Some of the best all have that, and its not just Kvara.
If anything, those that rely on raw pace often struggle for technical control at high speeds and have had to be trained especially as we saw with Sterling and Doku at City.
Incidentally, that is one criticism of Barcola…
I include acceleration under speed. It´s more important than top speed arguably.
But Franco doesn´t particularly have that either compared to the top wingers. He´s a tight space and creative attacking midfielder really.
But both Doku and Sterling are more renowned for their burst of speed than their straight line pace, both are small with a low centre of gravity.
Someone with pace is Virgil
Yes, the finished versions of Doku and Sterling
No they always had acceleration off the mark and they both have have/had issues using their speed/acceleration due to their inherent technical ability.
Although both did improve with practice.
Need cover for RW, CF, CB, RB, DM but can’t buy that much? Here is one for all ![]()
It’s just hilarious. I’ve never even seen this guy play.
Who?
Bruno Ogbus, 20-year-old center back ![]()
Dan Burn
I’d like to make a move for Archie Gray - who can play CB, RB and DM.
Buying him and Gomez is no longer necessary.
There is certainly a player in there with Archie Gray, and he has a lot of minutes under his belt for a 20 year old, but I keep seeing him described as someone who can play CB, RB and DM, but at this point at least, he can’t do those positions to an adequate level. He was a terrible CB and only pushed there due to injuries, RB was where he broke into the team at Leeds but that’s back when inverted wingbacks were all the rage and I don’t think he’s athletic enough to play out there in a Champions League team.
That pretty much leaves DM, which at the PL level he’s only really done last season and he was really bad along with everyone else on that Spurs team. de Zerbi dropped him immediately when he came in.
So while there is talent I haven’t anything from him to show he is a CL level player. To be honest he hasn’t even proven he belongs at the PL level at all yet.
What happened to Dibling? He looked decent for SHampton in the PL
I think Everton happened?
Looks like he hasn’t got a left foot to me. Swerve.
Prosthetic then?
Worked out tactically and easily nullified
We still haven’t gotten the CB situation sorted. Bit us in the arse last season and will continue until we get some more depth.
