Who would you buy?

Yeah, I understand the resistance to the idea given what happened last time we built around that option, but to bring in the number of new faces people are talking about we either need to find buyers for far more players than that conversation is acknowledging, or we need to do something pretty novel like that with the players we retain.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see only one new midfielder arrive. I think Fabinho should be leaving with Ox, Keita and Arthur. Send Jones out on loan. Bring in a DM and a CM. I dont see the club going that far this summer.

I think we probably end up with something like this for next season

Can’t see Jones being third choice at LCM. Either we sell Thiago and bring in another #1 option there, or we just stay as is.

Van Den Berg is more suited to playing RCB than on the left; I’d imagine we’ll sign a left-footer as Virgil’s long-term replacement. Sepp could stay as fourth or fifth choice, behind Virgil, Ibou, and the new player, then depending what we do with Matip and Gomez, one (or both) of whom may be sold.

Adrian’s contract expires this year, doesn’t it? We’re likely to see an experienced backup brought in; much depends on whether Kelleher is happy to stay on as understudy to Ali.

We’ve been so obsessed with continuity in recent years, and we’ve heard a lot about the club realising they’ve leaned too heavily on some players for too long to hint that there will be a change in direction, but until I see it I won’t believe it. I think Klopp likes his group.

New couple of midfielders, reduced overall squad size and a better designed pre-season and I think Klopp will be confident to take essentially the same group again. It’s not what I would do personally but I can see it happening.

I think Adrian’s contract will just get extended.

Gomez, Matip, Henderson and Thiago will spend most of the season injured anyway so the exact depth and positioning of each player can be taken with a pinch of salt.

For arguments sake lets say you’re right, given we now know neither of those 2 additions will be Jude nor highly unlikely to be Rice/Caicedo because we don’t/can’t spend 100m+ on a player, it simply won’t be good enough to achieve anything.

A whole season building up to what is supposed to be a big summer reinventment leads up to that? What kind of message does that send out to the fans on the ambitions we have going forward?

Reducing size of the squad knowing this suicidal.

Not a message I’d have time for but what @Sweeting says sounds the most likely outcome to me. Major squad surgery is out of character. There’s more chance of a Robbo-type signing for midfield than there is of a big money signing given the number of spots we need to refresh.

Why hang-on too Jones, he is 22 and I can not remember one match where I said afterwards this guy has a bright future with Liverpool.

Would sell him in a heartbeat.

Local lad.

Youth product.

Two ‘okay’ performances last week (after nothing in two years).

Who gives a shit what fans think?

Fancy being so self-important that you think that transfer activity should cater to your whims and fancies…

We had the same messages coming through last year about the huge summer we were about to have.

Under these owners I don’t doubt it’s the likely outcome but is it enough? Will fans be happy with 2 additions / 1 being starter whilst we keep most of the dross lingering around for another season at least? Why we happy to keep 4/5 players past their best? Where has our pro-activeness gone?

There will be a lot of questions like this asked of the club and owners if this carries on.

I would like to see him get regular football out on loan first to see what he is made of. A lower premership club or a championship club looking to get promoted would be ideal.

Too ‘old’ and too good to go out on loan but not good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot here. Won’t get better if we sign some new midfielders.

You’re asking that when you’re sat on a forums board reading hundreds of posts a day, really?

Transfer activity should cater for the clubs success that fans (including you presumably) have been riding on for the past 5 years…so yeah.

It’s always been about putting the club first & fans usually want what’s best for the club.

We know what he’s made of, he’s made enough LFC appearances for that. If we think a loan will improve him as a player then fine. But given his injury history and indifferent performance levels…I wouldn’t be surprised to see him sold.

Jones last start before that was Napoli, and he played well in that one too.

Guess his rating is too low on FIFA for you.

Jones won’t leave or go on loan. He’s a first team player who was growing into a rotational role before suffering an eye injury in training and then a bone injury which has caused him pain for nearly 12 months.

Now that he’s recovering from those injuries he’s back in the squad as much as his recovery programme allows.

Klopp clearly rates him as at the very a decent option.
