Also I’m getting a little fed up of the way the VAR takes 10 minutes and 100 looks at an incident to only then recommend the referee come and look at the screen.

Just either have the VAR referee talk to the referee and make a decision with the benefit of hindsight (like Rugby) or have them recommend the ref to come and view every incident after a maximum of 2 views, if an agreement on the current decision isn’t clear.

I think with VAR that factual decisions (e.g. is it offside) can be made by VAR but discretionary ones (e.g. was it deliberate handball) have to be referred back to the pitch ref.

Yesterday’s was one of the most deliberate that you will see but the ref missed the actual contact. Why it took VAR so long to determine that is anyone’s guess.

Is there a dedicated thread for the women’s World Cup?

The girl who scored the hattrick for Brazil kinda looks like Ronaldinho and the girl who score the other goal looks even more like Firmino!!

Outrageous question but I’m not surprised, it’s the BBC.

USA have looked very ordinary so far. Alex Morgan drifts out to the left flank so often that they have no real attacking threat on a consistent basis.

England were shocking in their opening day 1-0 win against Haiti also.

Its good to see that the smaller nations are getting a little bit closer in terms of quality and organisation.

There’s a couple of surprising results there. I’d expected home advantage to see Australia through. It also looks like the US are no longer invincible.

The US is in a transitional period. Several of their key players have either retired or are in their last go around and much the next generation is relatively untested. That is perfectly illustrated with their options up front - a 34 year old Morgan is still key and is partnered by a 22 year old Sophia Smith and then a first option off the bench of someone who is only 18.

They should always have the resources to compete, but there are reasons to tink they may be a bit more vulnerable this time around unless the old guard can keep it together or the younger players establish themselves on the fly

I think Lavelle can still make US tick if she’s fit enough. Lavelle and Huran in the middle is still about as good as it gets i think. Morgan more of a traditional target woman that tries to get Smith and Rodman in behind. Haven’t watched their second game yet.

I saw some of the Canada Ireland game, was impressed with Canada. Haven’t seen any of the south American teams yet, minus some outrageous Brazil goals.

Who else has impressed?
