Women's Football: General Discussions

All men should know that.

It just shows itā€™s a systemic problem and not a case of one bad apple.
Now itā€™s become the Spanish ā€˜Me Tooā€™ moment, and that may be a good thing in the end.

Not just his mum, a female cousin of his is making defensive statements as well. Basically heā€™s exploiting women in his family to back up his bad behaviour

Thatā€™s true however examples are set from the top.

The Spanish FA is digging so deep, it might get to New Zeland faster than by plane.

This is utterly bonker, but at the same time, hopefully the further they go, the further the reforms will be after that.

I have not followed this case and have a few questions.

But first, personally, coming from a much more conservative culture, I never understood how it is ok to greet people with hugs and kisses even in a social setting. I mean, I am even careful with body contact of any sort when taking pictures even with female friends.

But coming back to this case, if I were to imagine this case going to court, is there absolutely any way to prove that he forced himself on her or as right now, itā€™s still a matter of he says, she says and nothing concrete has surfaced like witnesses hearing the player refusing etc? Of course I can believe that the guy being guilty but from a discussion point of view, is this a clear guilty verdict or as of now, an uproar caused by whoever is making more noises?

Court and legal questions aside, any half normal human would step down under these circumstances. Atmosphere was toxic even before the WC, itā€™s clearly beyond repair now.

It should be up to him to prove he had consent. If Iā€™m honest I donā€™t think that would be very easy. When was she to give this consent?

Did he goā€¦ can I kiss you? Itā€™s not even the fake kissing people do is it.

Evidently he made a mistake and tried to turn it on her. It seems a number of authorities have taken a dim view and the Spanish FA is now trying to row back.

Meanwhile, RFEF is moving to dismiss their WC-winning coach

Oh it looks like they havenā€™t changed.

I canā€™t speak Spanish and yet I did a few modules on comms at University, I still think I could handle this better.

The Spanish coach, Jorge Vilda, has been sacked.

Took long enough.

The reputational damage to Spanish football, and indeed society, is huge: this should have been done straight away.

I have zero interest in womens football, but as clips are shown with such regularity, one cant help but see what happened.
Shame the whole thing has taken the shine off winning the biggest tournament there is.

From the clips Iā€™ve seen, he kissed her in a moment of sporadic celebration.
She didnā€™t look too bothered at the time, still in celebration mode I guess.

Observers started the ball rolling with the condemnation.

He should have straight away held his hands up and publicly apologised.
He didnā€™t, then the whole thing escalated out of control.

Or in shock?

Given everything that the womenā€™s team has been saying about their lack of power, do you think they would have bothered with a condemnation if no one else took notice about it?

Just to be clear, itā€™s the coach that was fired, not Rubiales.
He obviously had a problematic relationship with (some) of his players as well, but heā€™s not the kissing/grabbing his balls dude

Yep. But heā€™s bezzies with Rubiales, Rubiales went as far as suggesting a new contract for Vilda when all this stuff kicked off pre-WC with the womenā€™s team. He was also seen exuberantly clapping when Rubiales went on the defensive a few days ago during his press conference.

As is often the case, when the leader is a dick, they tend to employ dicks.

She looked far from shocked immediately after the kiss.

I have literally no idea what theyā€™ve been saying about their lack of power.

He did also criticise Rubiales behaviour as unacceptable and inappropriate, obviously too late though.

Do you know what being ā€œin shockā€ means? It doesnā€™t mean you necessarily show it on your face, youā€™re just frozen from what just happened, and you just continue acting perfectly normally.

So you decided to pass judgment without looking at the context?
