fundamentally, the money has to come from somewhere. so you could say it kinda is/will be.

relatability
its still a working class game,(or at least it likes to trade off the fact it is with its gritty/real promotioning) and though we marvel at how wonderful these guys life must be, the sliding level of how rich you can become compared to how good you actually are within the industry has a form of relevance… yes, we can all marvel at the likes of Messis wealth…but when you are getting into the realms of signing a fifteen year old for money that will establish them for life, as a first contract, its just unrelatable. the money in the game is preposterous even for people who are middling.

Just catching up with Diomande’s personal history. He is in a period of grief, having lost his sister in horrific circumstances. The only joy he apparently gets is from playing football. Otherwise, nothing.

Pundits hyping up Diomande against Germany but he’s been ineffective mostly, misdirecting passes and doesn’t seem to want to track back. Thing is, the one time he took his man on he gets past him effortlessly, pings in the cross and it’s a goal. Can’t argue with that. Germany are double marking him but CdI are sending everything down Diomande’s wing because he obviously terrifies Germany. Hope we see the true player second half because I haven’t seen anything worth £86m yet.
Germany are double marking him yet he still created the only goal in a tight game. That is why he is worth a lot of money

In fairness Wirtz hasn’t looked like an £86m player, let alone a £125m one.
Have liked Christ Inao Oulai in midfield. Good little midfielder him.

He caught my attention as well. Never heard of him before, had to check. 20 years old, plays for Trabzonspor. Not for much longer, I’m guessing.

Totally agree. Inao has been the best player by far. Only 20 and has brilliant control and passing. Tjere’s a bit of Kante about him.

Sorry, but he was crap tonight. Couldn’t trap a bag of cement.
He has had a quieter game, but let the record show that Germany are on edge and double up on him whenever he’s on the ball. He set their goal up out of nothing too, breezing past Kimmich as if he wasn’t there.
All this as a teenager, who is grieving, who (likely) has the weight of the world on his shoulders while some giants of the game fight it out for his services.
I’ve no doubt he will be a smashing player for us if he comes. Here’s hoping.

I’m not saying he’s a bad player but we’re talking £86m here. Not seen that so far. I thought Wirtz was easily Germany;s best player tonight although Undav deserves all the credit.

Yeah although the club has professionals who make a judgement call, its still very uncomfortable if we spend 100mil on a potential with just one full season behind him. Its not a slight on Diomande nor that we should not spend big money. Its just that it will only feel right if Diomande is half that price or if we spend 100mil on someone who has been consistently great for a few seasons even in a “inferior” league.
ADD: I never believed in must buys at all costs kind of players. But even if there is, Diomande is not one.
